Merry Widow Question

Many people have their own idea about it...but basically its a plain, no point cue with no inlays.
It's when the butt diameter = husband's .
OK, I believe Merry Widows have one piece butts.
The one that turns to a banana sooner or later.

When the butt of the cue is one solid piece of wood , no wrap ... obvious that most don't really know ...

Interesting descriptions...so it is more or less another term for "Plain Jane"?
Most of the MW's I've seen advertised on AZB are wrapless plain Jane cues...occasionally with a little ring work. More often than not they have a dark and light colored wood combination that alternates between the forearm, handle and sleeve. ex. Coco,BEM,Coco...Curly-Maple,Coco,Curly-Maple etc.
Like Kevin Varney said above, it appears that people have their own idea about it and calling something a Merry Widow can be a little subjective...or at least that's my perception up to this point.

The first time I ran into the term Merry Widow for a pool cue was for a Dufferin cue. That was decades ago and it described a cue that the butt was made of one piece of wood. So I would tend to agree with those who say it is a butt made of one piece of wood. I do disagree that they all will warp though. I have made many cues through the years with one piece butts that have stayed straight. You have to pick the right pieces of wood, and turn them slowly just like shafts.
I was always under the impression that a merry widow was a cue with a maple forearm, ebony points and buttsleeve, no veneers and very little adornment, such as ring work or inlays.
I think of them as plain jane cues, with or without a wrap. No points, and with some inlays in the butt. I've always looked at them as a fancy plain cue. Others have different opinions.
