could someone please tell me what the term merry widow means? i understand it has to do with cue making.
thank you

It was the actual name of Brunswick catalog cue with no points 100 years ago. It is the correct terminology for a cue with no points. I have no clue how or why the name came into usage long ago.

Merry Widow- 1 piece of wood, can be one piece or cut and have a A joint
Plain Jane- more than one piece of wood with butt, handle, forearm w/ A joint

This is the way I understand it from my research and I am open to further education about it, if anyone has a better description.

Earliest mention I've found of the Merry Widow was in Brunswick's 1914 calendar.
The 1928 brochure even mentions the "rubber noise subduer" commonly used on most cues today.
