Messed up trade with LILJOHN30

On 28/09/2007 I posted a thread for my Cocobolo Omen for sale or trade. LILJOHN30 pm-ed me with an offer for schon cue. I liked it and we were on a deal. I agreed to trade my Omen for his Schon with a little bit of cash top up on my part. I transfered the money to him through paypal and promptly sent out the cue on 29/09/2007 and sent him the tracking number. He then tells me he will ship out the cue the following day or the evening itself. Hmm...smooth trade i thought to myself. He then emails me some pictures of a custom declaration and despatch note asking me how to have them filled up. I then told him how its done.

I pm-ed and emailed him for the tracking number. He didn't reply for 2 days. I got a little worried and made an empty threat of having my money refunded and getting the post office to have my parcel shipped back. On 01/10/2007, he finally replied telling me he was incapacitated and will get the parcel shipped out asap. He claimed hes very cautious and did not want to be scammed. He then told me he would be on his way to the post office in an hours time. Hmmm..ok at least he bothered to reply i thought to myself again.

On 02/10/2007, he came back from the post office and asked if I could really have the parcel returned to myself and that everyone is telling him to wait till he gets his parcel before shipping his out. And that the postmaster said he didn't know what I shipped him, it maybe an empty box. This was making me impatient and frustrated. COME ON! Why would i do so much just to scam a schon?! Its not even close to 1k usd!! I then replied and he said he would send it out on the very day itself. I emailed him again asking if the cue has been shipped. And this was the reply i got. "I just got up,if you want to recall your package go ahead" That pissed me off. I checked the status of my parcel and it was already in transit to destination. Too much work to have it returned and my shipping fees will go down the drain. So i asked what was wrong with the sudden change of decision. He then told me he would ship the cue out but he didn't think it would take another 15 days for my cue reach him and he has to play in the US open and would have to find a cue now.Since mine wont be here for 15 more days and his will take about 10 days the post office said to get 2 me. He probably meant he wanted to wait for my parcel to arrive before shipping his out. If he needed his cue then he shouldn't have agreed to trade in the first place isn't it?!? Why should I be without the cue for 10 days and he shouldn't?! It doesn't work here like that in AZ. I told him exactly that and on 03/10/2007, he emailed me saying the cue will be shipped out that evening..that was like the 3rd time he had said something like that. And a minute after, he emailed me again saying "Through the us post office the tracking number will be what ever they put on the customs form unless they give me something else." I have absolutely no idea what he tried to mean. Has he ever shipped a cue out before? I emailed him agian asking for the tracking number and several times after that asking for updates. However, till today I'm not getting any replies from him. I checked his AZ profile and hes been coming on for the past few days. Theres no way he could have not seen my emails. Was I the one who got scammed instead? I don't know...

So John, if you do see this please get back to me asap.

he meant the tracking number is going to be the customs form number. since he seems to be shipping it priority mail instead of express mail, usps will not give him a tracking number. they will only provide him with the customs number on the customs form. all that does is register when the package was received and if u're lucky it'll update when it reaches your country. most of the time though, it just tells u when the package was received for shipping, it wont actually track the package.
 
Yeah. But he didn't give me any sort of numbers at all. And till now I don't know if the cue has been shipped or not.
 
well thats different then. i was merely commenting on what he meant regarding the customs number, it's impossible for any of us to know if he shipped it yet. but maybe some ppl who had past dealings with him will speak up about their experience.
 
The tracking (customs) number on an International Priority Mail package is a crap-shoot- sometimes the only info available on USPS.com is the day is was dropped off- sometimes it will give you day-to-day info with five different scan points- I generally get the day it was dropped off in the States, the day it was shipped out, and the day it reaches Thailand, but I've gotten way more (and way less) info with the various packages that are shipped to me.

Customs sucks

Plan on the package taking from 5-10 business days longer to clear a custom brokerage house. In other words it more tha mn likely stuck. And yours will be too. Ups and FedX cost more but have a much shorter wait clearing these brokers.
If he wins the open good luck ever seeing the cue he is shooting with!

dates

are the dates you posted in the story written with the day first, then the month?? i assume they are. i don't follow. he wants to play with his cue, the one you were supposed to get, in the us open and then send it to you?? if thats true, and he never mentioned this before, it is total b.s. that customs form that he sent you a picture of, look at it. if it has a number punch it in if ya still have the e mail with picture. sounds like some b.s and alot of it good luck and keep us informed.

yes, day first then month. Well, i assume he needs a cue to practise with before the US open. Whether he intends to use it in the open i'm not too sure. I don't see any punched numbers...

not saying one is right but i always side with caution when dealing overseas.

maybe youre a great guy but alot happens. he should have been up front with telling you he is waiting for his package.

thats what i do. unfort. thats the price of doing buisness ovrseas. too rishy.

as far as usps it sucks with tracking. i sent double-dave a cue overseas and marked it as "gift" and it went throught immed.

theives are always the first one to suspect theft. if it doesn't seem unreasonable to them they're wondering why you wouldn't do it.
 
liljohn30 has offered to refund me my payment and even though the cue has reached him, he has offered to ship it back for me. hes a good guy. all a misunderstaing. but with 2 cases of scam in a day like yesterday, no one can blame him for being wary. a couple of bad apples spoil the whole crate.

Here is how a trade works.
Both party?s agree to ship their cue on the same day, via similar transit time.
Both ship as agreed and both provide tracking numbers.
Both confirm receipt their cue at or near the same day.
Both are happy campers.
Anything to the contrary is a trade gone bad.
So now he?s a good guy. You went through the hassle of boxing your cue,
Made out a check or wire transfer, went through the effort of shipping the cue, devoted time in communications and logistics, looked forward to a new acquisition, and what did you get? Hopefully your cue and money back. Ya, that?s a sweet little transaction.

Ya, your right. Maybe when things settle down for him, you could contact him
for a re-go, ie, that second change. I bet you will be a lot happier with the outcome. Excellent mind set that you have, and you are to be commended for it.

I fumbled the ball on this one .It was my first time trading and heard a lot of bad stories.I did what via asked of me to make good and an sorry.I can understand if people wouldn't want to deal with me in the future and I accept this.I will see how things go for there are a couple cues that I'm interested in but am apprehensive to contact people because of this.Via if you ever need a reference use me.
