Went to the Gem City Classic for a few hours yesterday. The place was packed. It was the first time I've been to the Marietta Billiards Club since Johnny and Kim bought it. Everything was perfect and like I said, it was pretty much standing room only. The only problem I had was that there were only 2 bartenders, lol. I had 4-5 drinks and then ended up driving to meet some friends in Athens.

While there I had the pleasure of meeting a few AZ'ers that I had never met. First I talked to Cornerman (Fred) for a while and he introduced me to Joey A. Both of them are just as nice as they seem on here, very friendly. Joey then introduced me to Boradriver, who is also a really nice guy. Joey and I traded a few stories about some people in the pool world we both know and he, Boradriver, and I chatted for a while at the bar. Glad I had the opportunity to meet those guys and look forward to seeing them down the road.

I also talked to the RealBartrum and Keith Bennett for a pretty good while. We talked more about poker and golf than we did about pool, lol. Briefly spoke to Corey Deuel and appologized again for skipping out on golf this week (works sucks, by the way). Also got to see some old friends from the pool world that I haven't seen in a while like Mike T, Billy Tyler, Mike Gulyassy, Steve Lomax, Stevie Moore, and others. Wish I had the time to make the tourney rounds like I use too, but responsibilty calls, damnit. All in all I had a pretty good time for the few hours I was there.

I had a similar experience when I spent a few hours there on Friday. Wish I could have stayed the entire weekend. I did meet Joey and Matt, but had to leave before some of the AZrs showed up. (I would have liked to have met Fred)

Johnny told me they are looking for the event to grow even bigger and better in the future. He wants to see it so big that they need to find a different location to hold it!

From what I saw, they may well have to do just that.

Great event. Congrats to Johnny and Kim for putting together a great tournament.

The first post says "it was pretty much standing room only", so it sounds like they'll have to find a larger venue to hold the crowd if it gets much bigger next year.

In terms of pool rooms, there aren't too many that are significantly bigger, lol. The only thing in Atl that size is Mr cues, and I seriously doubt that would ever happen.

The croud was normal for Atl.the only time seating got tuff was when Johnny was shooting on 8 and Kim next door.I suggest bleacher next year.Alsp thanks Rick great show..

It's always cool to hear good AZ meetup stories.

Wish I had a good one. :D
