i just bought this table in july. i was wondering if i made the pockets smaller would it make my game better. if so what size pockets would you guys recommend? right now the corner pockets are 4.5" and sides are 5"

4.5 " in my opinion is plenty tight. Unless you want a one pocket table.

professor1967...In a word, NO! Unless your ambition is to be a pro player, 4.5" pockets are plenty tight.

professor1967...Since you're only talking about reducing the pocket size by 1/4", most people will add another shim. The professional way is to replace the rails, and have them cut the correct length. Can't tell you about cost. Go post in the "Ask a mechanic" forum.

about how much would it cost for the conversion to smaller pockets with new 860 felt?

One thing you might consider is buying Artemis rubber as well. Some of the members here can sell it to you at wholesale price. Also, if you can get a mechanic that knows how to add wood to the ends of the rails instead of only adding facings to make the pockets smaller, it's a much cleaner job that doesn't have so much facing as part of the rail.

I own Danny K's in Southern Cal, and in the process of replacing all the cushions with Artemis rubber, and all I can say is that it is so much superior to what most mechanics use nowadays and lasts years longer, it is really worth the cost.

One more thing about the size of the pockets. Things have really changed in the past 30 years or so in pocket size. It use to be that five inches was considered normal, and most pool rooms had that size, but in the past 20 years or so, pockets are generally becoming smaller in pool tournaments. I think 4 1/2 might be a little large now. I would probably consider 4 3/8 if it were me.
