If you had a choice of only these two shaft to be put on your custom cue when it's being made,(doesn't matter which cuemaker...) which one would it be? Please folks, I know these are not the popular choice of shafts these days, but work with me ok? There is a method to my madness.:D Thanks tons in advance. I'd would like to at least get 10 votes.

You should be hung by your toes behind the poolhall for even asking that question. First you'll have a very hard time finding a straight blk dot. If you do then you have to look at the huge amount of glue used in making these shafts. Look at a few...you'll see huge gaps in the laminations as well as pieces of wood splintering off some of the layers. I have several here that have broken that I had to make replacemant shafts for if you'd like to see pics. They often crack right along the glue lines. Plus they play like crap.
The Tiger is a high quality shaft that will give you no problem, and play maybe better than any shaft you can buy. Do you know how to make a blk dot shaft worth $20? Tape a $20 bill to it!!! LOL!!!

Fully agree, I have heard good things about the Tiger X although I have never shot with it myself. The Meucci black dot is... well... a meucci, I think that speaks for itself. Definately go with the Tiger if these are your only 2 choices.

I think if you did some research, most would recommend either a 314 or the new OB-1, maybe a few Tigers in there, but not as many as the 314 or OB-1. As said, the black dot is not a shaft that has taken off with too many shooters, including some hardcore Meucci fans.

Sigh....

Ok Gregg, first of all, I trully appreciate your reply and opinions. Second, I said I know that they are NOT the most sought after when it comes to laminated shafts. There is a reason for me doing this little experiment of mine, hince the "method to my madness..." statement.

Think of it as one of those, "If you were stuck on a deserted island..." type of question. The point is not too include the well known products, because...well, they're already well known. Plus, I'm not trying to make this another, "Which laminated shaft do you like?" thread either.

This is very specific and you have to choose between two products that not many people care about, that's the whole point. Between these two shafts, which would you prefer to have with you on that deserted island.:p :D Hell, you don't even have to explain why!:p :D

not even a choice

there is no comparison between the meucci black do and the tiger x shaft. If you want to spend the rest of your days kicking yourself for buying an inferior product, then go with the meucci. However, if you want solid playability and a shaft that won't come apart, then get the x shaft. I can't think of anyone who would degrade their custom cue with a meucci black dot....lol

No sweat, good luck with your crappy shaft experiment!:D

I guess if I were stranded on a deserted island, I wouldn't care if I had a black dot or not; it's not like anybody is going to catch me shooting with it anyways.

Good luck, have fun!

I Voted Black Dot.....

While I have never shot with either of these shafts I vote Meucci........First off it's a way cooler name.....really rolls off the tongue "Meucci Bullseye Black Dot Shaft!"...

Seriously...my shooting partner has one he shoots with all the time and he loves it....I gave it a good looking over and didn't see any lamination defects or anything of the sort and it's balls on straight.......My partner shoots gang busters with it tooo......except when I beat him with my McDermott I-2 Shaft.....but the point of this.....

I haven't hit with it but it's smooth through the fingers and has a nice balance......

As a side note I have to say that after visiting the Meucci booth at SBE Valley Forge I am NOT a fan of their product...After all who brings factory seconds to an expo??? That's just a sad commentary on this cue maker....

Meucci

Hey, I've had a black-dot shaft for over a year now and it was dead straight when I got it and is still as straight, I heard alot of bad things about Meucci but have not witnessed anything first hand, on a side note though, I now shoot with a Predator 314

I guess you are the one guy that voted for the meucci?

Why did you switch to the Predator?

I ddn't vote

I didn't vote for Meucci, all I was saying is that all I hear when the word Meucci is brought up is that they are junk, fact is that in my area Meucci's are what most people are using and I haven't heard of any troubles with any of them. I only bought the Predator because I heard so many good things about the cue and the same goes for the Xbreaker and right I now the only excuse I have for not running out every time is that I'm just not that good. :)
