Meucci going back to old shafts?

Someone go tell Cliff Joyner he isn't a pro.

As for the marketing strategy it is brilliant. Everything old is new again. Doesn't matter what taper you put on sh!tty shaft though it is still a sh!tty shaft.

That will only work for one year at best though. Word gets around that it is still a sh!tty shaft and it will hurt them in the next year. Best thing they could do is to rework their image by going all out in QC. It's much harder to knock down the good word than to knock up the bad word.

ummmhhhhh your mixing up your terms of deflection and throw. Balls get thrown, shafts deflect:rolleyes::rolleyes::banghead:

G.G.

you're saying they're whippy shafts that deflect massively...but the whippyness would lead to less deflection....

SIAP

What do yall think? A marketing tactic or actually true??

Well, it's fine that they offer this and they should but why the upcharge? If this is something that is just a normal shaft with the Meucci taper and ferrule that they have done for 25 years or so why are they charging more for it?

Personally I can't play with them. I have owned three Meucci Originals and while I was impressed with the designs I could not control my cue ball with them.

With the massive ammount of deflection I bet money your not gonna find pro number one today using one of them....unless its got an aftermarket shaft on it.

Grey Ghost

Danny Medina can be found playing with his old stock Meucci. King James Jimmy Rempe still shoots with a Meucci and I would bet that it has a Meucci shaft on it.

Someone else mentioned Cliff Joyner.

As a brand Meucci might own the most titles in pool across multiple disciplines. Throughout the 80s and early 90s Meucci was the big dog as far as cue manufacturers go.

If they had stayed on top of their quality and customer service they might be the biggest brand in pool today.

The damage was done . . .

old shafts, wellin 1986 or so i used to buy meucci cues,i ordered 17 one day, every one was warped, rolled like a banana, lop lop lop. They would not replace the shafts the same day i opened the box. a short while ago I bought a few sneaky petes same problem...

You can buy one at your own peril. This is not a knock,I recomend them for anyone who isn't concerned with a straight shaft

Of the few people I still know willing to buy a newer Mooch, almost every one has had to return them for quality problems. I think they sat back on their laurels, got lazy, started making s*it and now they're trying to resurrect their brand. Pretty tough thing to do when they allowed the problem to go on for a decade or more . . . amazed they are still in business with all of the competition they have.

Actually you are partially right with that statement.

Shafts do deflect, and OBJECT balls do throw. Cueballs "Squirt".

However, many people refer to cue ball squirt as deflection. I try to use the term cue ball deflection or cue ball squirt.

Throw is when the object ball path is changed by the spin of the cue ball and the friction between them at the moment of impact.

Many people believe the stiffness of a cue shaft will affect cue ball squirt or deflection. In reality, it may, but so little that it could hardly be measured. Cue ball deflection or squirt is almost completely the result of the difference in mass between the tip end of the cue shaft and the cue ball. Meucci's were very whippy, but that did not make them low cue ball deflection. They were lower squirt than most, but it was because of the thin wall light plastic ferrule, not the whippy shaft.

Remember, the cue ball is long gone from the tip by the time the shaft bends out of the way and whips from side to side.

And a warranty . . .

as far as solid maple production shafts ...

there is McDermott..

then there is everybody else..

better wood

better process

better shaft

it's that simple

IMHO

My cue repair guy says that McDermott has the most stable and solidly made shafts of any production cue maker . . .

The Meucci Cues are made right down the street from me now. I saw a For Sale sign out front the other day:eek:. Rumor around town is that they aren't doing too well, but I don't have any solid info on any of this
