I have a nice old Meucci Originals 88-2 model from the mid-to-late 80's (part of Meucci's "Golden-Era"), and it has some unique features, including a design very similar to, yet with a reversed color scheme to that of a Meucci Jimmy Rempe, JR-2 model.
This cue features what appears to be dark and figured Gabon Ebony, spliced into a curly or hard rock maple forearm. In years of collecting Meucci's, I've only seen one other like this one, which has a rare RED Meucci Originals block logo stamped in the butt:
The inlays and ring work of this cue are stunning, and I think you will agree that it is one of the most attractive Meucci Originals you've likely ever seen? The silking of the wood grain in the maple shaft is easy to see in this next collage:
I have a 2008 Bob Frey Custom Sneaky Pete, with Gabon Ebony, and the wood is very similar to this, which first appeared in quality cues some 30-35 years earlier, with this classic and collectible Meucci:
Overall, this cue is in EXC to EXC+ condition. It is NOT showroom perfect, as it has some superficial scuffs on the butt, and minor bumps and bruises on the finish of the wrap area of the butt. The forearm and original shaft are very nice and having great finish. Overall, I'd earnestly rate this cue as being in 8.75 to 9.25-of-10 conditon. This would be a great addition to any serious Meucci Originals collector, and would offer solid performance as a daily player. Here are a couple shots of the butt and shaft aside one another:
The weight feels between 19.5 to 19.75 oz., and the shaft measures approzimately 12.62 mm at the base of the ferrule. The shaft has a long and sleek, smooth professional taper, and will play as solid as any of the collectible and rare Meucci Originals from this era, such as the Jimmy Rempe or David Howard line of cues. I initially thought this cue was a Meucci custom, as I couldn't find any identical Meucci Originals example in the standard production line, offering these inlays, and this wood, in any of the Meucci brochures, resourceable via the internet. UPDATE: Since posting, other members have informed me that this is an 88-2 model.
