Meucci Pro Shaft--is this a crack?

Shade Tree Mechanic's Way
I would put a light coat of Vaseline on the Pin.
Then put super glue gel in crack as far down as I can.
Then screw them together.
Then tape the collar tight with masking tape.
Pray that you can get it apart later.

If I had a Lathe I would put very thin epoxy in the crack then wrap tape around it, then clean up the threads.

Dude...please stop. DO NOT use superglue to repair cracks in cues.

Take that one to the cue makers while you are asking about growth rings. Ask them what they think when they get cues in that have been repaired that way.

So cool of you guys to respond...lots of great feedback!

I don't notice a rattle or anything. I keep it in my case, away from humidity. I'm stumped, and pissed.

I love the shaft. Dangit.

All the more reason to just repair it. This is a very common crack in a vulnerable area and the main reason why joints have collars. With epoxy it will be stabilized and a permanent fix. The damage is minimal since the joint collar is binding it together. Generally kiln dried wood is over dry to start with (dryer than after being exposed to the atmosphere) . If it's not properly acclimated when fitted, it will swell and sometimes crack, especially if the tap is too tight. Variances in joint screw sizes from batch to batch can cause the problem too.

A rush job making shafts, not acclimating the wood and not checking joint tolerances all contribute to the problem.

I have to agree.

I have some 50, 60, 70 year old cues and older with such cracks. It is very common as cues age, especially if they have a pilot. Of course, I have those that are not cracked as well.

Some that I have were already repaired with epoxy. Some have not. I am not afraid to hit a few balls with the ones that have not been repaired, but if I were to use them regularly they would be repaired.

Repair my a$$. I'd send that mess, (butt included), back to where I got it for a refund, then I'd find a cue to buy!

if you can't hear a buzz don't worry about it. The phenolic collar will hold it if it is a crack
