Meucci shafts flex

Hey guys,

So the other day I was down at the local pool room shooting with a few friends and I met an older gentleman who was using a meucci hp1 and I made the comment that it was a beautiful cue and that I hear a lot of bad things about Meucci Cues these days especially concerning how whippy the shaft is and his reply was that a lot of people haven’t learned how to control the whip and that a really good stroke is needed to use a meucci and I was just wondering what are your thoughts on this?

Not trying to start an argument, just curious.

You dont need a good stroke to manage a whippy shaft, you just need to like them.

I've played with all the current Meucci shafts except the carbon. I didn't feel that any were close to what i'd call "whippy". I sometimes wonder where these rumors come from.

Decades of 12.75mm shafts with a 16" taper is probably what did it. :thumbup:

I played with those too back when. They were more flexible than most of the i-beam stiff cues of the day but they weren't whippy. For around 20yrs all the top players used them 'cause they played better.

I think thats how most people would define a cue shaft being whippy compared to the standard tapers used during that era.

Not sure how you define whippy. Maybe something more along these lines.... :thumbup:

About 1986 I had a steel jointed Schon and a Meucci.
The Meucci moved the cue ball with less effort than the Schon.
The Meucci just played better.
Until the Meucci warped it was one hell of a cue.

I've had 4-5 Meucci's. Not one of them ever warped. Schon no doubt built way better but a good Meucci sure plays sweet.
