I wasn't quite sure where to post this thread, since we don't have a blackball sub-forum. :grin-square:

Most people know Michaela Tabb, United Kingdom's top female pool and snooker referee. She is organizing the Festival of Pool event with her husband, Scottish pool player Ross McInnes.

The Villa Marina plays host to the Isle of Man Festival of Pool at the end of the month and there's tens of thousands of pounds in prize money up for grabs.

Competitors from all over the British Isles and further afield will be heading here to contest the British Open, but there's also the chance for you to get involved in the pro-am tournament.

Michaela Tabb is the United Kingdom's top female pool and snooker referee and is organising the event with her husband, Scottish pool player Ross McInnes.

Michaela spoke to Edward Oldham about what was planned for the festival.

There is an audio link at the bottom where Michaela speaks about the event: http://festivalofpool.com/index.htm

The activities surrounding the tournament are plentiful at the Isle of Man -- an abundance of nature, coastal scenery, exciting railway trips, gorgeous golf course, poker tournaments galore, and then there's those infamous pubs. What more could anyone want!? It really does look inviting. :)

They sure do get a lot of cool pool sponsors on the other side of the pond!

She is quite the professional and has the full respect of the pool community. That in itself is quite a feat! Michaela Tabb has made her mark in the pool world.

Here's her Wikipedia article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michaela_Tabb

She looks pretty doggone good for 40, I tell you, and she dosen't take any bunk from the players! I like her! :)

Interestingly, though Michaela Tabb will probably always be best known as a first-class snooker and pool referee, there's a new kid on the block who made her debut as a referee as this past Master's tournament.

She's a 27-year-old from Ireland named Patricia Murphy, and her partner's name is, if you can belive it, Louie Roberts!

Murphy got into pool from her partner Roberts who is a professional snooker player.

Here's a picture of Patricia Murphy watching Alex Pagulayan's match at the World Pool Master's in Vegas.

She's now got her own website: http://www.patricia-murphy.com/

About Michaela Tabb, Murphy says: It was Tabb's success in the world of pool and subsequently snooker that first inspired [me] to don the white gloves. When I first saw Michaela refereeing it made me believe that I could be a referee and she was someone I looked up to so much.

I like this trend of lady referees. We need more of them, IMHO!

We should totally have one. Posts limited to 500 characters. Won't make any sense at all.

Yes, she looks great. I like her too. She does a great job. I never get tired of hearing "settle down please" with that accent.

I have seen Michaela in a few tournaments and she is very fair. I do remember the time when she called a hair foul on me at World's and it threw me though. :( She was the only ref and was wandering from table to table and my hair grazed, not moved, a ball and she just happened to pass by at that time and called the foul. (It is my understanding that there should have been a ref at every table for her to do that, otherwise, it was up to my opponent to call it.) Anyway it was rather unsettling, as she had come up from behind me to call it and gave ball in hand to my opponent.

She is a kick in the pants to hang out with off the table though! ;)

A sexy picture of her on a snooker table showing cleavage and holding playing cards, which have nothing to do with snooker! I find this image to be disgusting, tasteless and demeaning toward women! I hate seeing snooker being sold and promoted this way! If I wanted to see pictures of pretty women showing their cleavage I would have gone to the T&A forum!

Yes JAM, Ross doesn't hog the limelight but has a thoroughly deserved legendary reputation at the small table uk style game and was the first uk professional pool player back in the 80's when if memory serves me correctly his more boring day job was at the inland revenue tax office in Scotland!

I can remember making the odd flying visit to play in the very early days of tournaments at The Pot Black pub in Anderston Cross in the early 80's when his ablity was already evident and we played several times in the following years in weekend holiday camp based tourneys etc throughout the Uk. Though I learned something every time I also lost something most of those times, cheers Ross!

The Isle Of Man event (edit, thanks Peter) will be great and I would most certainly be there were it not clashing with a longstanding booking for a family holiday in Cyprus.

The tournament addressed in this thread is held in conjunction with another event and it is mentioned in the web site.

http://festivalofpool.com/overview.htm

And don't forget that a series of major poker tournaments is also scheduled !

So that sexy picture has everything to do with the pool tournament Michaela and her husband are promoting.

The post was meant to be sarcastic, and maybe even funny, at least to me. It also reference previous comments made by the OP regarding sexy pictures of women in the pool and billiards world. I guess you need to unwrap your gift of laughter...:)

I think that you got your countries mixed up !!! Good job you are going to Cyprus because if you went to Ireland, you would miss the tournament.

Forgot to mention in my first post on this........ironically this independent "Blackball Rules" event is running on dates that are in direct opposition to the official European Blackball Championships being run elsewhere in Uk on the same dates under the auspices of the EBA (European Blackball Association) who are the only body recognised by the WPA for Blackball Rules pool in Uk.

......and Ross/Michaela's event will almost certainly knock the spots off the official event in every sense!!

As to the wider picture, as it happens "Blackball Rules" pool as a whole is in fact only one of two highly competitive regimes of uk style 8 ball in Europe/Uk, the other being "World Rules" pool (controlled in England by the EPA and controlled worldwide by the WEPF, neither of which are affiliated to the WPA).

To add to the confusion, a large proportion of English pub leagues have no interest in learning/changing to either of these "modern" rule sets and still play the ancient "Old EPA Rules":)

You think you got pooooolitical problems in US and Manila!!!! :) :p
