Does anyone know where I can purchase various grades of the micro-grit shaft smoothing paper like the magic stuff out there but in bulk?

Automotive parts store. You can get 1k-2k grit sandpaper that is the same as those microcgrits for 1/10th of the price. Don't buy into the gimmick.

The micro grits are 4000, 6000, and 8000 that I use. Where is the gimmick? These guys are not the cheapest -http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Sanding_Tools_and_Supplies/3M_Flexible_Polishing_Papers.html?tab=Details but can't remember where I bought mine in bulk at the moment.

In bulk? Like 1,000 of them? Dag dude, how fast do you go through sandpaper?
That shaft must sparkle like a twilight vampire.

2000 grit sandpaper is all that's needed......auto shops finish the paint on a card wet sanding using 2000 grit before the final lacquer coats........try Croakus Cloth.......it's jeweler's paper that is used for polishing gold.....you sure don't want to be rubbing off the gold when you polish it.....nothing I've come across seems more fine than Croakus Cloth.....it runs about $1.20 - $2.20 sheet depending on where you buy it.
