Congrats to Mika Immonen on yet another Ocean State Championship.

Although Mika won, Mike Dechaine proved himself to be World Class.
Mike won the first set of the true double elimination final and then, at 7-7 of the second set, made a beautiful combo on the 9 that would have put him on the hill but the cue ball found the corner pocket.

A great final played by both players and a true show of heart in Mike as he nearly double-dipped, argueably, one of the best players on the planet right now.

Great to see my buddies, BrooklynJay and Monkey. Hope to see you guys again soon.

Didn't Mike defeat Mika at the U.S. Open this year? I thought I read that, but, of course, like everything that has to do with my aging memory, it's subject to check. :embarrassed2:

Mike Dechaine is one of my current favorite young guns. He's cute, reminds me of a teddy bear, but he's fierce on a field of green. He seems to have a good attitude that complements his place in the pool world, which today consists of tournament soldiers.

I think he realizes that today's action players were born a decade or two too late and have nothing to look forward to except ridicule, online poker, and memories of what they once were. I wish Mike all the best in his future endeavors. :)

I don't think so, but he beat SVB in the 2nd round.

You're probably right. I knew he beat a good player. He has been playing well in recent times. Thank goodness he let go of that action mode and started to concentrate on opportunities as a tournament soldier. He's doing well for sure.

I think I remember that now. Shane's next victims didn't like it one bit. I think one competitor got a big fat goose egg for a score at the U.S. Open this year against Shane. How brutal.

A friend of mine from back home named "Baby Huey" went to the Open a few years ago, paid his $500 entry fee, and was hoping to make it to the top. He drew Niels Feijen first round and also experienced the big fat goose egg for a score. I'll never forget it when I read his name on the roster. Not too many people know his *real* name, but I did. I felt kind of bad for the kid.

American tournament players, Brandon Shuff and Mike Dechaine, the new kids on the block. I like it. :)

Mike did defeat Shane, not Mika. Shane did subsequently go on a tear and goosed Bartram. I was table side when he beat Archer handily, in a near perfect display.

Mika was beat by Corey and then by Darren, finishing 3rd.

But back to Mike, his young game has definitely jumped a ball in the last year. He's rising hard and fast. If he keeps up the improvement, we may be handicapping him in the same breath as SVB and Archer soon!

Congrats to Mika!
