Mike Dechaine

I’m excited to announce that I’m slowly, but surely, getting back into playing competitive pool. The last 8 years has been an incredible journey working for one of the best companies in the world, Renewal by Andersen, but I would have regretted not giving pool one more shot. More importantly, I want to do right by America while I still have it in me!

America needs more elite rated players. Now if Bergman would travel and go all in...
You didn't hear?
Bergman coming out on the tour the 12th of Never.
Bahahaha

Always been a fan of Mike's. He is the 2nd or 3rd best we have. If you don't believe it, bet of Billy or Tyler to beat him in 6 months.

My head canon is that Mike's been using his window sales gig as a front to hustle.

(Scouts houses with pool tables in the basement, throws a rock through their window at 3AM, uses opportunity to sell them new windows)

"Oh gee, I see you have a pool table, can I take a shot"

**CLANK**

"Shucky darn, I missed...."

I'm not convinced Dechaine will help America accomplish anything. The competition has stiffened quite a bit in the past eight years.

We'll see.
I’m not either. He sure didn’t accomplish much in past Mosconi’s. I’m not sure why so many people believe in him like they do. Compare his winning percentage in the Mosconi Cup to Tyler and Billy‘s. Not impressive at all. I hope he proves me wrong and the USA gains another, much needed, world class player. As you said, “we’ll see”.

Mosconi winning percentages:

• Mike Dechaine 24%

• Tyler Styer- 44%

• Billy Thorpe- 43%

Let's see what he can do. I, for one, am rooting for him. He's a great talent and I'm sure he has matured quite a bit over the last several years. Yes, he had some troubles in the Mosconi and I told him that once (funny story for another time), but who hasn't? The Mosconi is pressure like no other event. Even Shane has been less than impressive at times. He would still have to earn the spot of course, but I think if he has some success in the next year or two, he will be considered. He has that kind of talent. Who would he replace though? Shane (lock), Fedor (lock), Skyler (lock), Tyler (probably a lock too)...I guess the 5th spot may be open for challenge.

Indeed, I'll take him over some journeyman pro or Earl's corpse or whoever else they've been trotting out there in recent years. He's only 37, younger than SVB. Might take him some time but I could see him being a legit force within a year or two if he's seriously back to playing full-time.

Mike is very talented- probably 2nd most talented US player. When he gets in stroke, he can beat anyone.

MC is it’s own animal and he may still struggle there- I think part of the issue is that he rubs some of his teammates the wrong way- particularly Shane.

At 47:59 Dechaine shows respect to Hall of Fame SVB before he was a Hall of Famer.

He has more on screen personality than most pool players.

as i remember it there was a lot of talk about team chemistry when mike was on. that's probably a mild way of saying it. hopefully he's matured. besides there are so many more opportunities now than the mosconi cup. would be a crime to not give pool another go with the talent mike has.

Lets just remove Earl from all future discussions. He is no longer an option no matter what the Earl fan club might say. He's washed up at this level and had a good run, but it's over for him. There have been several journeyman who have filled the roll, but we need something special to get over the hump to beat Filler and the Euro crew. They are just too strong individually and collectively.

I wish Mike Dechaine the best on his pool journey.

At one Mosconi Cup, it seemed he had a chip on his shoulder and did not get along with his fellow Mosconi Cup members on Team USA. It was very noticeable and folks commented about it. Of course, I'm not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but Mike did not seem happy shooting pool at that time.

Also, sadly, he was cyberbullied online by those who did not like him with cruel words and memes.

I'm hoping he's gained a sense of maturity and will be all that he can be today. He's now 37 years old. I met him in 2004 on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour. A friend from Maine told me that this kid, Mike Dechaine, is the real deal and that he's strong. I remember seeing him at various events. Here's a photo from 2004. I guess he was 17 here.

The last time Mike played in the Mosconi Cup he looked very nervous and uncomfortable. It is hard to see how taking 8 years off is going to help his confidence. The older you get the more the dog comes out. I wish him luck but I doubt he becomes a top player on the international stage.

Confidence isn't his problem. Learning to be humble is.
