Hello,
I have been looking at various cues and I purchased a Samsara that I love with their LD True Shaft. I have been looking at other cues as well and was wondering if anyone had experience with Mike Gullassy cues, especially the LD PHX shaft. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I like to have two playing cues with slightly different feels and the Samsara is my first LD so I want another LD to complement it.
Thanks!

Without ever having owned one...

Mike is an innovator and he don't put out no junk, except for that one trip to china for the sledgehammers. But we won't begrudge him for trying something new.

I own one of his playing cues. Quality is top notch. It's a simple Merry Widow of Birdseye maple, but fit and finish is excellent. I have the SPTX taper on 2 shafts and will say I like it pretty well. The shaft freeze treatment he uses is very good at keeping small dings off of the shaft. Mike was a very good player so it's safe to say he has first hand knowledge of how a cue should perform. As far as dealing with Mike goes my experience was a good one. He was accessible by phone/ text and delivered on schedule and provided tracking. No problems. He is definitely innovative in cue design. He tries things that are outside of the box which is cool in my opinion.

Probably one of the best made cues construction wise and hit and play ability.Nothing goes out of his shop he would not play with himself. Perfection is the word. Yes I have a plain one with his low deflection shaft, SPT. You will see and feel the difference. He has a new shaft that gives that one the 8 ball.Rich aka the skunk.

I do not know about his newer cues, or LD shafts, but I hit with one of his cues maybe around 15 years ago, and I really loved it. I thought it had an amazing feel and hit. There must be a good reason why his prices just kept getting higher over the years. He was a pro player, so I think that helps to know what players look for in feel and playability.

Many will accuse me of being a shameless fan boy, but I'll wear that...I've hit with just about everything over the past 30 years, and nothing comes close for me. This was Mike's player for about a year, then I bought it off him (it's a PHX). His shafts are really unique, they flex like the old school Meucci, but feel stiffer...and deflect much less. I've got one SPTX (it has an 18 inch pro taper) and two SPT (long pro taper, just not as long as the SPTX). The cue's balance is so good it feels much lighter than it is. It hits medium firm and really sweet, and seems to make the CB come alive with a lot less effort. The SPT and SPTX were designed for Earl, and I believe he still shoots with the SPTX; he has one of the new PHX butts, but may still shoot with the older MGD (?) butts. They all hit really, really good. I haven't tried his new shaft design, he told me it's all in the ferrule design, whereas his SPT/SPTX shafts are unique in the degree of taper and the shaft freeze treatment. What's interesting (telling) is that you don't see very many for sale on the secondary market. They aren't hugely expensive yet ($600-$1100 range for the simpler designs, more for more intricate ones) and worth every penny in my book.

Check his stuff out on FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/mike.gulyassy .

I have played with a cue made by Mike since 2001. Got one of his newer shafts a couple of years ago. Love them both, never made me even consider thinking of changing what I play with. Also, I can let you know that after 16 years, the cue is still in great shape, very well made. I feel like I stole it when I paid him $400 for it all those years ago.

I have a custom Purpleheart breaker, as well as a pair of his SPTX shafts. I agree with Westpoint, Mikes shafts are the best.

Give him a call, you'll be happy.
