Mike Massey Coming to Fort Collins!

I'm sorry, but this just come across as arrogant and naive.
Thank you for your opinion.

Just because one may have some pool knowledge/theory, basically, knowing what sounds about right on paper, doesn't mean that one has all the tools and ability of playing top level Pool.
Agreed.

I feel it's disrespectful to those that do play top level Pool, as well as very arrogant to have the attitude that "all I need to do is play more and I can get there".
I agree. I'm sorry if you think I implied this ... that was not my intent.

What if one doesn't know how to, or can't master the "other things" that go into playing top level Pool? Hell, knowledge of how to make a shot and get position is only a portion of what you need to master. What about the ability to execute and the knowledge of knowing how to make your mind and body execute? Then, there is the mental game. Some say that this is the hardest part to master, to play high level Pool.
Agreed. Knowing is different than doing. (For much more info on this topic, see the relevant items here, many of which were created as a result of past debates with you.)

Long story, short; one can practice 25 hours a day and never figure out how to get above a certain level. To think that all you need to do is play more, to get to top level (even though you've never gotten to that level) with no experience of what it took to get there, is naive and laughable.
Agreed.

Perhaps you should stick to the one area of Pool that you are an expert in; slow mo videos & how the balls really react. That is some truly great info.
Thank you.

But please, don't let that fool you into thinking that you are now an expert in all things Pool.
Your points are well taken. Nobody can be an "expert in all things pool."

Regards,
Dave

I had the great fortune to see Mr. Massey last November, and it was an amazing show. Even in our small little room here in the middle of nowhere, with maybe 30-35 people, he was awesome. treated everyone fantastically, signed everything, took photo's, and put on a hell of a show. I HIGHLY recommend anyone that is near enough to go to see his show, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks, dub!

When Francine is with Mike, she gets to caddy the object balls for Mike's "limbo" shot. The last time I saw his show, she was not there and I got to be caddy. On his last throw, the "limbo" object ball was less than two balls from the end rail.
I too have been lucky enough to "caddie" for Mike in the past. If Francine is not here, maybe I will do it again. Thanks for adding to the thread, Bob.

Mike Massey was in Philly this weekend and once again he did the Finger Pool thing. For those that have never seen it, it is amazing.

Eric >has tried to do it for the past 15 years (with 0 success)

Wow! I tried it after the 1st time I saw it and almost needed a cast afterward , you've been trying for 15 years?????

Here's another "finger pool story" I grew up in the Detroit area and would see Paul "Jew Paul" Brusloff in action. He would be leaning just in front of the side pocket throwing the cueball 2 rails towards the side he is near (long rail, short rail toward the side). Then he would bet any amount that he could 2 rail the cueball into the side in maybe 3-5 shots (could have been less). Once the money was up, he would spin the bejesus out of the cue ball and get the 2 rails off the same long rail just before the pocket, and in it went.

To try to clarify, he would be sitting on the 3rd diamond closest to the side pocket, put Massey like spin on the ball to double the rail and the 3rd time back to the same rail it went into the side pocket - so he 2 railed it in.

Sure there were arguments because he wasn't using the same 2 rails he was practicing, but he did in fact 2 rail that sucker in with regularity. He was fun to watch too!

I'm sure Mike can do this, too. But he chooses to use his fingers for good rather than evil :). I can't wait to see him in action.

For those of you in the LaCrosse, WI area, Len Jaszewski does this shot quite well in his exhibitions also. Len is like Mike in that he has large strong hands (although not as big as Mike). It's strength in the fingers.

Mike Massey

I was lucky enough to go see a show that Mike Massey put on last year down here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area for my first time. It was great. He is truly a great player & a gentlemen on top of it. He treated everyone with respect, taking time to speak to many people who had questions. Mr. Massey puts on a wonderful show.
If he comes to your area. It is something that you need to watch.

Another bump to make sure the Colorado folks see that Mike will be in town. You will not want to miss it. I know he will be in Longmont the next night at the Bit of Billiards but not sure of the rest of his schedule.

Dave

Only a few days away. Please come join him and enjoy the show.
I will have my high-speed video equipment there to show instant-super-slow-motion replay of some of Mike's shots. Are there any particular shots people would like to see? With Mike's permission I will post some of the footage online.

I will certainly capture his power-draw (with pre-contact elbow drop?) and finger-pool techniques. I also want to capture the tip action for a whip shot, and the tip and CB action for a power masse and the "machine gun" shot.

What else of Mike's would you guys like to see in super slow motion?

Dave

where do you find out his schedule?

it's in the regional pool paper Cue Times - an APA ad. He will be in Fort Collins 7/10 @ 6pm and the next night (7/11) he will be in Longmont @ the Bit of Billiards same time. That is all that is advertised. I'll be at the one in Fort Collins w/my wife so if you make, please say hi.

Dave

Unbelievable...I got called away on business and have to travel Saturday so I will miss Mike. I'm so bummed! I hope everyone enjoys the show.
