I was talking to someone today and this name came up.Mike was a junior champion, nationals I believe. I saw him play for the first time when they had the TN nine ball tour in the late 90's. He was a beast! There were several excellent players on that tour including Shannon Daulton, Billy Young, Bobby Pickle, and many other world beaters. Mike dominated the tour. If I remember correctly he won six of the nine events. He was like 18 or 19 at the time. Here is the kicker, the finals is a race to seven two straight events he and Shannon are in the finals , Mike gets the opening break and Shannon never shoots. He breaks and runs the sets. I got out of pool for about
5 years and started playing again 3 years ago. My question is what ever happened to Mike ,back then I thought he would be a US open and world champion by now. Does anyone know where he is now or why he doesn't play competitively any more?

Has no one heard of Mike before. He was definitely a strong player. No one knows what he is doing now?

He still plays around here occasionally. I think he played in the KY state 9 ball tourney a few years ago and lost to Landon. I don't believe he is a full time player though.

he married an Italian girl and lived abroad for a while. divorced now.

And Tomahawk is in the top 3 of worst bands I've ever had the misfortune of seeing live.

Wow... it was terrible.

But, on a brighter note they opened for Tool. And, that was a great show!
 
He was a hell of a player back then,I saw it first hand several times. Tommy D.

I believe I saw that tour in DC...missed Tomahawk and barely got my hammered self there for Tool...which I shall agree was great.

I have 2 Tomahawk CDs that are damn good though.

OT: Patton is a studio queen, I guess.

I guess I'll go ahead and say that Mike Patton the pool player was a great player as well for what its worth. I saw him in the late 90's in some tourneys in Lexington, which he won. He was a helluva player as some here have observed.
 
I know Mike and his father Jim pretty well. I saw Mike at the Derby City Classic in 2011 or 2012. Mike had lost quite a bit of weight and looked good. He played Ralf Souquet in a first round banks match and seemed to have him on the ropes but Ralf came back and won, 3-2. I left shortly after and didn't see him again. He seemed to be just scuffling around the South mostly playing cards I suspect. He seemed to take more of an interest in cards than pool.
He started playing at a young age and his father put a storage building behind their house and Mike was hooked. Matter of fact that was all Mike wanted to do. He started missing a lot of school and dropped out, started back but not sure if he completed High School. He grew up about 20 miles from me (between Corbin and Williamsburg, Kentucky) and I know Shannon Daulton was his hero.
Mike started playing all the local tournaments and finally it started to click October 1995 at Steepleton's Billiards in Lexington. 81 players cued it up including Bucky Bell, "Peru" Paul Bowman, Frank Fisher, Joe Blackburn, Russ Edwards). I got Mike in the calcutta for $55 and he beat high bid, Jason Miller in the finals. Mike went undefeated and first in the calcutta paid $1500! I used to be lucky like that:wink:. Mike went on to win the 19 and under Junior Championship in 96 and was runnerup in 97.
Well I guess that might be more information than you wanted..LOL.
P.S.- If anyone sees them, tell them to get get in touch with me (Bevo). I have a nice plaque that the room that sponsored him in the Juniors had on their wall. They were going to throw it in the trash we then closed but a friend brought it to me, knowing I knew Mike and his Dad.
 
Mike was a very good player back in the mid to late 90's, I am sure he can still play. He was always a top contender in any event he played in. I used to see him at Willard's in Oneida about every month, he won that event a few times and that was one of the toughest monthly tournaments in the area. He was the first "player" I ever beat in a tournament, also at Willard's, and I felt like I had beat a world champ.

Mike was always a pretty good dude to me, hope he is doing OK. I haven't seen him in a while but he used to post on here although I can't remember his handle.
 
Sounds interesting. I heard He played in the Ky state 9-ball tourney twice and went undefeated both times.

Mike just played in a Big Tournament that the Cue Club put on about a week ago. 64 players and it was said that Mike went thru them to a race to 11 unbeaten to Win the Tournament. You had to beat each player 11 times and he did so with ease and was unbelievably unbeaten thru the entire Tournament. He is a Beast no doubt and he seems to have not lost his edge
