A friend of mine purchased a Mike Wheeler cue in 1991 from a dealer in San Antonio. I believe it is black with four points, but it has been over 25 years since I have seen it.

He made a comment in an email last year that he would consider selling it.
What kind of values do his cues have in general?

Is there any interest if the price is over $1,000? What kind of values do his cues have in general?

I will email him if I get any interest, and ask for pictures if he really wants to sell.

He doesn't know I am posting this.

This is one of the strangest posts ever.

To recap:

you have a friend who bought a wheeler cue 25 years ago you "believe it is black" but not sure if it has points or not.

the cue is still your friends, not yours.

he doesn't know that you are posting to see if there is any interest in *his cue* but you will let him know if there is any interest over $1k.

Yep, strikes me odd and it's not just because you are posting in for sale section with nothing for sale, though that adds to it.

Friend is interested in selling if the price is right.

His description of the cue:

Mine is four veneered points which looks exactly like the Richard Black Hoppe model minus the ivory butt ring.

I have no paperwork and there are no markings on it. I suspect he made it in Black’s shop, to Blacks specs, as I was told, so they didn’t know whose name to put on it.

OK. Here's one that sold on Ebay for $790 total. After fees and shipping, the seller probably cleared about $730. It has Mikes signature on it, 2 shafts, and a leather wrap. That should give you a decent idea of what they're selling for in today's market. If your friends doesn't have a leather wrap, or two shafts, or the signature, and he want's over a grand for it, then I think you guys are wasting your time. The fact that you have no pictures, no spec's like shaft thickness, straightness, overall condition, makes your cue worth even less. I might be interested, but at no where near a thousand bucks. Again, good luck.

without coming off as being harsh, I think the main point is is that if trying to market a cue for sale you must make a proper presentation. That would include having a complete and accurate description of the cue along with good quality pictures.

And before that, if you don't know what the pricing should be, either post the same complete and accurate description of the cue along with the good quality pictures to the main forum asking for member opinions on what the value could be, after which you can decide if you want to put it up for sale and for what asking price.

OR

you can post it on ebay for a hundred bucks starting bid and no reserve and let the public determine the cue's worth or simply place a reserve on it to protect yourself if it doesn't make it.

The very first step should *always* be that the person who owns the cue should decide if they want to sell.
