Milestones

Well I know that most of you all in here might not see this as great accomplishments, but I am really starting to piece my pool game together here recently. And I am so excited about it! (This is even with getting rid of my ex-wife in Sept; boy was that a mess, and having hell with another women that I tried to date up until recently. LOL)

The first accomplishement that I am really excited about is that I finally ran a rack of 15 balls last night. I take ball in hand after the break, and I try to run everything out in no particular order. Just pick my own pattern and go! I have always gotten hung up on like the 13th or 14th ball!

Well last night I finally ran 15 straight. Racked them again and got 14! Then I racked them again and got 15 again! (Unfortunately after that I choked at 7 and called it a night. LOL)

The other milestone that I am happy about is the other day playing in the local 9 ball tournament I got 5th which is my second best finish, but I had two different racks that I broke and ran out on that day. I only made one off the break both times, but I ran the other 8 out like I was unconcious or something.

My stroke has been very good lately, and I think I have finally found my rythem when it comes to my stroke. I am very comfortable taking just about any shot that comes up during a match.

My position play is starting to finally come around slowly, but I still need a lot of help on my saftey play in 8 and 9 ball.

I will keep working at it, and hopefully before too long I will hit another mile stone!

Thanks for reading everyone!

Nice job txplshrk!!! It sounds as if you and I shoot about the same speed. You've got one plus on your side though, and that is your youth. I am past my prime by far. You, on the other hand, will only get better with time and practice. You seem to be (from reading some of your other posts) a dedicated and tireless student of the game. You WILL get even better. Maybe we will run into each other somewhere in the future and knock a few around (I hope it's before you get too good!). Congrats to you and good luck in your future!!!

After you can run the rack in a random order, try to run the rack numerically & get back with us...

Keep us informed about your increase of skill. Make us a video, so we can see your improvement.

The funny thing is that I am not scared to play anyone! Even if I get my a$$ handed to me I learn something from every experience at the table.

The thing that is really holding me back right now is the amount of time I have to dedicate to college! That and women trouble didn't help too much either. LOL I keep telling myself that in 3 years after I have my masters in my hand I can go ahead and actually get serious about pool! LOL

Until then I just keep learning what I can learn, and trying to get better. That's all I can do!

I would love to match up a couple sets with you sometime. You going to any of the Fast Eddie's events this year? I am going to try and hit quite a few of them up this time! That is provided I have enough cash! LOL

Anyway, I hope to see ya around someday! And I ain't as young as I would like to be at this sport! If I would have deticated myself to it about 10 years ago think of where I would be now! LOL Oh well it's never too late to get started! The oldest world champ was in his 60's if I remember correctly! That gives me 30 some odd years to practice! :D

Yea, that is my next goal! I know that one will take perfect position play too!

I want to get good at running the rack randomly first, then I will work on the rotation aspect! LOL I am still having troubles runing racks of 9 ball, let alone 15 ball! LOL

I need to get me a camcorder so that I can video myself, and so that I can analyze my game a little. Make sure that I am doing things correctly and all. I also need that so I can get with an instructor up in SA and start seeing him about once a month.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Congratulations on getting the woman thing straightened out. I think you'll find that the happiness found on the pool table will always be more consistent than the happiness you'll find with a woman! : )

Unless you LOSE in pool as often as I do :o :D :D :D !!!

Nice shootin"!!!

But, I must say, I find it fairly easy to run 15 random off a break, but I hardly EVER break and run at 9-ball, either in practice or competition. I think that's your more impressive accomplishment. Your position play must be much stronger than you realize. Well done!

Let me ask you, are you playing English much? I am still playing draw and follow 99% of the time, but it's finally starting to work!

When I was shooting pool in the Army a few years back I was using extreme english for my position play.

Now that I am getting better and better I stay on vertical center a lot more, and I tend to find that the shots and position are much more predictable. Not that I don't still use english when I need it, but I find it much easier to stay away from it! LOL

Or put all the balls around the middle of the table and spread them out to where they are all about a foot or so away from the rail and then shoot them in no particular order but do this without touching a rail. This will help your pattern play to see how to do this without touching a rail...you will be looking for stop shots or shots where you move very little. Try it.

When I was shown using center ball in a paid lesson from a local road agent, my game improved about two balls. I credit that particular lesson as being the most important one in my playing life to that point in time, at least in 9 ball. It's good to see that you can keep your focus on playing, now! Keep it up.
