Anyone care to share recipes for treating tips? I currently press 15mm Triangle tips overnight after 24-48 hours of soaking in milk. I use a piece of steel in the vise jaws to limit the amount of pressing and maintain consistency. They seem to work very well and never miscue like some of the layered tips I've tried.

Looks like ya got it right there. That is the one that most use.

Some people may have some variances but Milk + Pressing is how it is done.

Is there a difference in the type of milk? Such as 1%, 2%, whole milk, goats milk and so on.
Also, what tips is usually used as the tip to press? Are some tips better then others? If there is some secret I can respect that, but this is a forum to share information.

I know this sounds odd, but does it resonate an odor after affixed to the ferrule? And how long do they have to dry?

I don't notice any odor. I soak them in the refrigerator. After pressing I just let them dry for a day or so.

Do you change the milk after 24 hours? Because if not, the milk is spoilt right?

I know Jeff's milkduds doesn't have an odor to me. But when I did my own, there is. Smells a little bad when you're trimming the edges.

I use triangle tips and soak them in virgin piss for a week and then squeeze them between my butt cheeks until they are dry............... smells bad but shoots great..............

Heat the whole milk on a microwave for 40 seconds (just before boiling)
Soak the TIP for 24 hours, dry them and press..
Works well for me.. :P

Breast milk, kahlua original, splash of coffee and a shot of gun powder...

Now everyone has the ingredients.. It's how it's all measured and brewed is the trick'

I use 2% milk. I leave mine sit out. It can get a little thick but I give it a stir a couple of times. I have never noticed a foul smell. But then, my old lady smokes and there are 2 dogs in the house so there are probably a few odors that I don't notice either.

The Piccone Tip presses are excellent. I used to use a small hobby vise. That way you can see how much you press them.

I will Pm Joey as I think this is his formula so I don't want to get it totally wrong.

If you have a set of calipers, .180 thickness is approx a Medium tip. Smaller and you will get a harder tip and obviously thicker than .180 and it will be a little softer hit.

I usually get them very close to .180 and that is pretty much what everyone will like but I have experimented and got them a little softer.

Yes and no for me. I like but I don't like. Know what I mean? I find that they don't last as long and no longer become totally maintenance free.

And I find, for myself anyway, that it is not necessary to make them harder than what the medium will do for you. Unless you like a Super Duper hard tip. Then go for it.

I have pressed Le Pros and Triangles. I use them for a break tip usually. Nothing wrong with either, just rather stick with a Elk Master for a Dudly.

On a few, I have pressed them too hard. I just re soak them and press again. I have not noticed any difference in performance when I have done that.

I like to do my own but I also have a personal supply of Dawg's Duds as well.

Soaking time is not long in my experience 24hrs too long, one quick lock down hard press not good ( leads to glazing in my experience along with whole milk ) had several complaints and was glad to have the feedback....properly soaked and pressed elk master makes a super playing tip also with a little time a great break tip.....try hitting a baseball with a sponge that's my opinion ....whats yours

There was a patent back in 1919 for making tips with cream or something like that. The fore runner of milk duds, they also had a fibre pad stuck to the underside of the tip. Makes for an interesting read.
