notice, focused on main thread and topic, didn't read most of it...

In regards to the cost of goods, I think the oil companies have taken advantage of recent events....which caused gas prices to rise, and now the cost of goods is rising in response to the higher fuel prices so companies can make a profit....it sucks to pay $3 a gallon....also, I need milk, so not happy at $5 a gallon for that either....IMHO, some of it is inflation, remaining is price gouging by oil companies....

In regards to minimum wage, there are millionaires out there with an 8th grade education.....there are immigrants that came to this country 50 years ago with only pennies and have built huge businesses through hard work and determination......worked for min wage myself as a youngster....for those that don't like min wage, they should have paid attention in school, smoked less weed, and should work harder/smarter to get a better job...

couldnt agree more. The minimum wage is just that, the very minimum....its not supposed to let you live large. And what happens when you promise the sheeple youre going to raise it to give them relief? derherrrrrrrr.....businesses raise their prices to absorb the increased labor cost, its simple economics, thats why stuff like minimum wages and labor unions make no sense, they create artificial threshholds that interfere with the market. Please pay attention to this, because the same arguments are used to talk about "raising taxes on big evil corporations"......well they will just roll up the tax cost into the cost of their product and youre right back where you started.

On the topic of milk...

Before you all crap yourselves please don't shoot the messenger.

The only way to beat the system is to beat it first before it beats you. If you are single find out what it takes to qualify for food stamps then see if your employeer will put you on cash commission like a sub contractor (no paper trail). Then don't report your income and pay your rent, car payment and bills with a check in someone else's name. This can save you a fortune in food money. Forget about the shame of having to pay with food stamps because in reality all that really matters is that its free food and lessening the burden this inflated society puts on us.

If you are with someone and thinking of marriage do this.

Don't legally get married if the wife is unemployeed. She will qualify easily for WIC and Food Stamps with no income being unmarried. You should get between 200 and 300 dollars of free food monthly and another 50 or so bucks for milk, bread and so forth. Make sure you list her as a caregiver for an elderly relative so they don't force her to find work.

You can't live on minimum wage or even close to it. Not even close to reality to think you can.

I see it everyday....people buying groceries and using food stamps to pay for hundreds of dollars in food and then piling in their 30k SUV or nice new car to head home. Read below and I'm sure you guys blame the people who cheat like this for all of the shortcomings listed but in reality it will never change or get better so why not right???

Its a dirty world out there and if you don't get to stepping someone will step on you in a heart beat without a shred of decency about it. Every single thing that is designed to protect us will do whatever they can within their power to screw us over before actually being forced to provide the protection we pay for. IE health insurance, auto insurance, work coverage, life insurance and so forth.

So you can play by the rules and work your ass off for little to nothing or you can find away to get some help and start finding a little breathing room inbetween working at your under paid job with little to no benefits and small amout of free time you have.

Maybe its time to get your milk for less than 5 bucks.

why don't a few more vote for our glorious leader, Bush. what a joke. worst president I have ever seen and I've seen them all since Ike. I wish he'd get blown by an aide so we really had a reason to impeach him. Seems like lying to the American public over reasons for war isn't an adequate reason. More loss of privacy in over 200 years. Lets not kill embryos that get thrown away, for the possibility of great medical gains but lets kill a bunch of adults and children in Iraq. Seeing how Cheney can hit a target, I think he should go on the front line in Iraq. Please come soon 2008 so we can get rid of this recovering????druggie and alcoholic with his dillusional belief systems.

Just today, Karl Rove, called 'Bush's Brain', will call it quits by the end of the month. Reason: He has to take care of his family. Bear in mind, this is a few weeks shy of Gen. Petraeus report to Congress in Sept. Now to make matters worse, there still roughly 1 1/2 yrs. before Bush's term expires. These guys F@CK$D everybody up for 8 yrs. Killed alot of our people and more in Iraq. Now, they just walk away from it. We lost many of our good men and women, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, husbands, wives and so on. Not to mention we now have more people hating us.

As a united people, we owe a responsibility to our country and our children to redeem the United States of America and the values the forefathers have installed. Do not let George Bush and his possey walk away free. Congress and the Judicial branch should charge them with TREASON.

The whole problem in this society and the world is greed. Corporations and governments are stealing every last penny that Americans make and wasting it on their on selfishness. When we stop executives from Home Depot getting $200 mil for leaving, Exxon making $400 mil for a year bonus and the list goes on. Pharmucetical companies are charing $75 for a tube of cream that they make from less than a $1. 4 people who own the majority of stock in Wal-Mart....$100+ billion dollars. You say this is the Amercian way....whatever. It's theft.

True, plus a lot more, insurance, hospitals, doctors, dentists, lawyers, scams, cons, arson, property damage and theft etc. American people are a lazy sort, waist time at work, non productive and over spend which also drives prices up. Many of you are at work right now. LOL We're doomed better get use to it, Make sure your kids get a good education or their gonna be screwed.

I agree with you. But invading and occupying a country that was NOT proven to cradle or harbor terrorist elements is simply fundamentally and morally wrong. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. The politican and militray actions taken in Afghanistan was right. The problem was when the attention shifted to Iraq using the same justification used for Afghanistan but with a totally different agenda. If the Bush and his possey really was serious about addressing the terrorism issue, the massive march should have continued to the northwestern border of Pakistan, where the Taliban have regrouped and have resumed their campaign for our destruction. If you would look at the backgrounds and nationalities of terrorists, they come from countries that are supposed 'friendlies'. Not one has been known to be Iraqi, not even a Palestinian. They are Saudis, Egyptians, UAEs, Chechnyans and Pakistanis. So what the f*&K are we doing in Iraq! Don't tell me its the oil because the price of gas has triple since the knucklehead sat in office. We as a people are being bled from all sides - by our enemies and by people who suppose to be on our side.

If we are to survive and recover as a nation, our country needs Divine Intervention more than ever. Keep the prayers coming and make sure you vote for the best candidate and without regard to political affiliation in the coming presidential election. God help us and our next president.

Less than 1% of the people control over 90% of the wealth. You figure out the math.

"We haven't had an attack since 9/11."

That is because I bought a lucky rock right after 9/11. It has been keeping this country safe. Before 9/11/01: no rock and we got attacked. After 9/11: lucky rock in my possession, and no attacks. Hard to argue with those numbers. It's working. All hail the rock.

Sorry guys (and gals), I got carried away a little. I guess you know by now that I am an unhappy camper with the course things have taken in this country in the last six years. Yes, I do blame the current adminsitration big time.

Like everyone else, I was sickened by 9/11. I just think that Bush and friends used it as an opportunity to carry out their own personal agenda. Now, I'll leave it alone.

Bullseye Jay! I've been reading many posts here about pool and non-related pool topics. You sir, by far, is the most balanced, objective and thought provoking poster who have a very good vision and can transcend on issues. May you live long, make many offsprings and prosper!

So, if you throw the rock away and we don't get attacked then it really wasn't the rock and all is well. But, if you throw the rock away and it REALLY WAS the rock and we get attacked then what? You were obviously an idiot to get rid of the rock.

Corporations do what we as a society granted them to do.

Pharmaceutical companies charge a boatload because they have to create an incentive for the the movers and shakers in the economy to invest in them. That $75 tube of cream reflects research and development costs. Because of medical testing and endless red-tape with the FDA, it takes several years and even decades before some companies make any $ at all. Not to mention the many drugs that are disapproved. By a promised decent rate of return, investors are willing to forgo income for the time being. Innovations come with steep price tags.

As for the huge bonuses, governance boards figured out that if they aligned the personal interests of their officers with interests of the company -- by offering huge bonuses and stock options -- then maximum productivity would be reached. If someone made you $4 billion a year, would you pay them $400 million for doing so?

The government steals... Corporations don't.

Are you aware that the same drugs sell for a fraction of the cost in other countries? I was amazed by how inexpensive (and quick) medical care was in China. I had to go to a hospital for some minor treatment and received a specialists care within one hour. He prescribed medicine for me and we went downstairs to the pharmacy. I paid the U.S. equivalent of $8 for prescription pills and another $10 to see the doctor. His diagnosis was right on and the pills worked wonders. This was an infection that I had trouble finding a cure for in the USA.

In the Philipines my girlfriend was sick and we went to the pharmacy and bought strong antibiotics for $9. She was fine after a day or two. I am left to conclude that we are getting the short end of the stick over here. I think the pharmaceutical companies charge whatever the market will bear. No wonder so many people seek drugs in Canada for half the price.

Corporations are there to make a profit. Period. That is what I learned in business school accounting.

Probably not, because that one man did not make the corporation $4 billion. Society did. The people who pulled up to the pump and filled their vehicles with the overpriced gold.

I'm self employed. The insurance companies and corporations have made it impossible for me to afford health care for my family. I'll join the ranks of the 40+ mil who can't afford it......

Corporations do what lawyers tell them they can do...not what society always wants them to do.
