Missing players not earning Mosconi Cup points

I don't feel that all players are going to get in all events. The format, equipment, and game matter. The locale and timing of the event matter. So in this day and age, when travel is so expensive, I think you're going to have players choosing to participate based on their strengths, preferences, and state of their bank roll. And I think the bottomline on that is that many will opt out on bar table events.

Lou,

Your reasoning is exactly why the players who really wish to represent the US in the Mosconi Cup should have been at the USBB. Had they planned, Hard Times was the week before. Lots of big table action there. There are sooooo few "pro" events as it is. Why risk being shut out if your goal is to play on the MC team. Opting out is no longer an option.

Incidentally, the drive from Sacramento to Reno is roughly an hour and a half. How many of the best guys travel alone these days?

Players are obviously caring less and less about the Mosconi Cup. Losing year after year with no current hope of winning any time soon dampens one's spirit along with the recent 90 degree turn in the tournament world. J Hall got a small bump up from the recent cup but everybody else's star fell precipitously. Who wants to say-"Yeah i was on the MC four times-we lost every year!"

All the Whiners about bar table tournaments being used as MC points events are just looking for something to ***** about. Calm down! Look at the top finishing Americans at the USBTC. Shane is still going to be on the team, doesn't matter what size table they are qualifying on. Skyler Woodward and Scott Frost also did very well and would both be great additions to the team.
It's not like we are going to be sending a team of no name players to the MC because they qualified on a bar table. There just aren't enough 9 foot tournaments being played in this country anymore. They are too costly to produce and the fields are too small.
Qualifying events are 5 9 foot tournaments and 5 Bar Table tournaments. Still 6 more tournaments for players to try and qualify.
CALM DOWN!!!!

... Qualifying events are 5 9 foot tournaments and 5 Bar Table tournaments. ...

Are you sure? The only qualifying events for which I have read announcements so far are DCC 9-Ball, the 3 USBTC's, and the Pro Players Championship at SBE. And then the announcements say "The full calendar of qualifying events as well as the points system to be used will be announced in due course."

Lyn - there was absolutely no or little notice given that the events in Reno were going to count as MC points. This was discussed earlier and I can only assume you missed that part of the conversation. DCC 9 ball as a point event was announced 7-10 days before it kicked off.

And I understand that most pool players may not have a job but let's say there are a few that do. Or they have a spouse/baby momma that works and would need to have coverage for the kids in their life. The bar table events were during the week - so even if they were given ample notice (which again they weren't), they would have to take off from work or obligations to do so. Given little notice, that would make it even more difficult to rearrange their lives at the last minute.

The entire process is now is disaray. Matchroom has taken a great thing, something that people talked about for months last year and turned it into a much less event that only a few knew about. Sure people are still talking about it but not in the manner they should.

Yes this was announced somewhere - I would have to search to find it. 5 bar table, 5 big table. It hasn't been announced that the two bar table events in July in Vega$ are the last two but you can make that assumption. Why all the events still haven't been announced is nothing short of misguidance by Matchroom.

i thought it was announced.

maybe some of the pros have posted on FaceBook about it, since they aren't posting herein.

Steve,

Truely believe Barry Hearn gets his rocks off reading and listening to American players and posters on AZ complain about his Mosconi Cup event. First it's the selection process. Then the atmosphere surrounding the event itself. The Cup has become a joke to nearly everyone except the five or six players lucky enough to be selected. The $10K plus and the vacation they earn is all there really is. Pretty sad my friend.

Incidentally, are you and your team going to Vegas in July?

I hear what you're saying, Lyn, but it's hard times. It costs way more money to travel nowadays. And a week in LV, regardless of the points, is not so easy on the pocket book. I think that has a lot to do with it.

The only guy I see that needs to calm down is the guy using all the caps and exclamation points.
