I don't feel that all players are going to get in all events. The format, equipment, and game matter. The locale and timing of the event matter. So in this day and age, when travel is so expensive, I think you're going to have players choosing to participate based on their strengths, preferences, and state of their bank roll. And I think the bottomline on that is that many will opt out on bar table events.
Lou,
Your reasoning is exactly why the players who really wish to represent the US in the Mosconi Cup should have been at the USBB. Had they planned, Hard Times was the week before. Lots of big table action there. There are sooooo few "pro" events as it is. Why risk being shut out if your goal is to play on the MC team. Opting out is no longer an option.
Incidentally, the drive from Sacramento to Reno is roughly an hour and a half. How many of the best guys travel alone these days?
