Well folks, his cover is blown and I hate to have to say he beat one of my favorite young players to win it.

1. Tom "Old Has Been" Ferry

2. Chuck Raulston

Tom won this tournament in 1982. This past weekend he came out of retirement to once again take it off. 24 years later? How long has this guy been on the stall?

Congratulation to my friend, OHB and to my other friend, Chuck Raulston,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$Bill

Thank You

Thanks for all the congrats.
Chuck Raulston was about all I could handle (and almost didn't) after playing 10 hours on Saturday & 13 hours on Sunday. What a gentleman to compete against and NO, I don't want to play him anymore. I think that is what surprised me the most. The fact that I could still hold up for that long.
Phil Spudich, his lovely wife and the entire staff at Rack & Roll, ARE what is still great about Pool. The conditions, equipment, food and pool fans made this a tournament I will never forget.
My Wife (who was with me when I won the First Missouri State Championship back in '82) couldn't believe it when I called on my way home with the news. She said she was glad that I could still do "Some Things" the same way I did in '82 because she knew of quite a few I couldn't still do quite as well.
AND THAT JUST CONFIRMS THAT I'M STILL AN - "OLDHASBEEN".

Congrats OHB...just out of curiousity, who did you have to beat in the finals & what were some of the other big names in the tournament? 24 years ago I would have been 13 years old (and some people on these bulletin boards would say to young to know anything) but if my memory serves me correct was it not CJ WILEY that you beat back in 1982? Also, when was the 'Louie Roberts Rule' put into place in this Missouri State 9 Ball tournament which states once you win, you can't come back. I know Phil revoked this rule a few years ago in order to get higher class players like yourself back into the tournament.

BTW, looking forward to the 'action' this week. Chris Bartrum, Klatt from Canada, Andy Friedenhofer, Strong Arm John, Bobby Jr. already here & I hear that Gabe & John Hager are on their way.

I would like to congratulate you once again, Tom, on your win. This guy really can play, everyone, and he not only proved it to me, but to the rest of this 96 player field. I also believe he is the oldest person to ever win this event in the 24 year history. That is an accomplishment in its own right. I also thank DeAnna Michelle and $Bill on the compliments. I did my best. Congrats OHB.

Congrats to you too Chuck. I missed out on that in my train of thought in my previous post. Most people don't realize how hard it is to win or come in 2nd in a tournament like that. A very long two days of pool where in a race to 6, anything can and does happen. Nice accomplishment. And now you have the benefit of being able to go back next year.

watchez

Thanks, watchez. It is nice to get to play in it again. At least play in the 9 ball since I can't play in the 8 ball anymore. I haven't seen you in a while. Will you be at Action Billiards this weekend? I will be coming.

Chuck Raulston

I didn't fair nearly as well as OHB and Chuck, but I did donate my entry fee to the prize pool! I was a couple of rolls away from making the money round but all-in-all I think that I shot pretty well. Congrats OHB and Chuck on your finishes. It was good to meet you Chuck and once again it seems as though I was unable to meet OHB since I had to leave directly for a party at my friends house when I finished my morning round.

I'll be there....you ought to come up sooner, I am sure you heard about all the action in town the last month. I also hear that you have a friend interested in a pool table or two....I still have two gold crown III's for sale. I'll catch up with you this weekend & we can talk about it.

Starting To Look Like Deja Vu, All Over Again!

Now that Mr. Watchez has saw fit to mentioned the action that is happening here in St. Louis, Here's my 2¢.

I was in Detroit back in the 70's and I'm sure everyone has heard about the action there at that time.

Well, (only time will tell for sure), but St. Louis COULD become the next Detroit. All the key components are HERE & NOW. I can see it happening as every day & game takes place.

The Players Are Playing - The Backers Are Backing - But what it takes to really make it a true Detroit all over again, just happened not long ago.
A BACKER WAS BETTING ON ANOTHER BACKER PLAYING A PLAYER & A PLAYER WAS BETTING ON A PLAYER PLAYING A BACKER. In other words - Right now - It's just "TRUE ACTION".

And here is what is making it special -
I have been down every road of pool ever traveled for the last 40 years and I can honestly say - "AS FAR AS I CAN TELL" (and believe me, I'm a true skeptic), Every game & bet for the last 6 months has been "On The Square".

KNOW WHY? For the same reason that sometimes (much less than most people think) "Business" is considered. - $$$.
There is more $ to be won, made by treating everyone fair & square than there is to be made by ripping someone off and losing what is your best asset, INTAGERITY. Players, Backers, and even the sweaters are really realizing and appreciating that - WHAT GOES AROUND - COMES AROUND.

Here is the Best Part though -
Right Now, Right Here, A PLAYER OR A BACKER can finally do something that I have been hoping would happen for quite some time now -
GET MORE ACTION, WIN MORE $, AND GET A MUCH FAIRER SHAKE THAN BY GOING TO ONE OF THE MANY SCUM SUCKING CASINO'S THAT ARE RUINING POOL ACTION NATIONWIDE.

Ahmen brother...

Watch Out - This Place Will Spoil You For Almost All Other Poolrooms.

When I won the first ever Missouri State 9 Ball Championship back in '82, I think I got $500. I have No Idea what I did with that money, but I know the trophy is in our family room and my kids tell their friends all about "Their Pop" all the time. All the $ in the world, can't buy that!
Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the money and I play for the money, but as I get older and hopefully a little wiser, I find my priorities are being redefined.
I have always told my kids, - I make money, money doesn’t make me.
I think what I enjoyed the most about this years tournament was,
1. The true fellowship of all the other players who played and gave it their all. I realize that none of us are going to out-live the game and the respect of other players is about all you can hope to take with you.
2. The entire weekend experience that Phil and his staff provided at the Rack ‘N Roll in Columbia, Missouri. Phil, Maggie and I - "HAD A BALL". They really know what they are doing when it comes to running a business & tournament. Very professional but also VERY friendly. They made me feel as though I was playing in my home poolroom and If you’re a player, you can really appreciate what that is like.
3. As far as the equipment goes, "What can I say" - GC IV's, Centennial Balls with the original Blue Circle cue ball, great lighting, etc.
If you ever see someone driving down the street in a new Rolls Royce - Ask them, what they think of the ride! Of course I realize that when you win, all is beautiful, wonderful, etc., but I can honestly say - This last weekend will be with me for as long as I live. I only have one regret and that is that my wife and kids were not there. They actually got mad at me for not bringing them, like I knew I was going to win or something. My Son said, come on Dad, you have always said that the only way to have Complete Control is to be In Stroke and play'n Pool. I think they are really starting to believe all my bullshit.

Now this wouldn't be me if I didn't comment on the FOOD but this was different. I have never seen the quality, quantity or selection that was available. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, complete pot roast dinner, strip steak dinner, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, chili, fish, everything including one of the best sandwiches I've ever had - A Hustler Burger. It was a triple Decker that had ham, turkey, 2 cheeses, krout, & a great burger. It was all served by some of the nicest, most attentive and efficient staff members that I have ever seen operate in a poolroom before. The entire staff (especially the tournament directors) ran a "First Class" Tournament.
GOTTA GO NOW! For some reason, I’m very hungry!

Ah, the infamous Hustler Club...lol. I once ate 4 in one sitting on a bet/dare. Boy did I ever regret that one :D

Congrats to Chuck on his 2nd place at the State Championship, and congrats to OHB on his win. I saw him play on Saturday nite, my friend was in a flight w/him and had to play against him and actually got 4 games on him. Newayz, I would be curious to hear the final results on the entire tournament. Chuck, good luck at Action this wkend, see you there.

Phil Calls Himself "Electronically Challenged"!

Phil Spudich (the room owner) told me he doesen't even use emails so I wouldn't think he is posting results. Maybe Fax?
Anyway, Phil can be reached at (573) 874-8192
