Mistaken Rep

I gave Blah Blah a negative rep. This was given by mistake. To quick on the mouse I guess. As it was my intention to give a green rep. My apology to Blah Blah............... Sincerly Charlie D

I have almost clicked on the negative rep button without meaning to, before. I have no clue how easy it is to make that mistake, but if it's as easy as it sounds, I think they should have a couple of "Are you sure you want to give this person negative rep?" buttons, to give you a chance to back out, if that's not what you want to do.

Did it tell you you gave bad rep when you were done? If not, how did you know that you accidentally hit the wrong button? Do we have a way to check back on all the rep we've given out (or at least the rep we've given in the past month, or so) to make sure we haven't accidentally made that mistake?

I think it's pretty easy to make that mistake. I've done it at least once that I'm sure of, and I'm pretty sure someone gave me negative rep by mistake because the comment was positive. When viewing a post, the green "REP" button and the red "BAD" button are confusing. I've never intentionally given bad rep, but up until a recent thread on this topic, I thought the BAD button was used to give bad rep. That's not what it does.

I couldn't find instructions on these buttons anywhere in the FAQ and Rules, but I "think" I've figured it out.

I believe the "bad" button sends a message to the mods about the thread not being suitable.

I have never used it, but I believe that it what it is for.

Yep... position your cursor over the button and it says... "Report bad post".

Close, but WRONG. If you accidently give someone bad Rep, the moderator(s) can remove any comment left along with the Rep, but they CANNOT change bad Rep to good Rep.

I agree with the other poster that said the BAD button on the Tech 2 skin only reports a 'bad' post to the Mods, it doesn't give the poster negative Rep.
You must click on "I disapprove" to give bad Rep.

The way to overcome your mistake is to give Rep to people until you receive a popup that you have givenout too much Rep.

Tomorrow, give Rep to people again (approx 10 people) until you receive that message again. After you have maxed out giving Rep for a couple of days, you will once again be allowed to give Blah-Blah Rep. Give him GOOD REP and that will cancel out your accidental bad Rep.

Repeat that procedure until you are allowed to Rep Blah-Blah again and then another good Rep from you will move him up positvely....

That's what I want to know... what comes up? Comment box? Does the page that comes up look just like the one you use when you're giving someone good rep? Does it say something about agreeing or disagreeing?

Just click on it and open the new window. After you are finish looking at it just back out without clicking submit.

The rep button is for giving rep good or bad. You click approve or dis approve to make it good or bad. Be careful it is possible to actually change your pick if you hit your up /down key.

: ) thank you, Charlie D, for being so upfront and public about the apology. Really not necessary, but very sweet.

I thought either it was a mistake (because my having innocently asked for a link to a billiard ball juggling video didn't seem to warrant a neg rep!) OR maybe I had given away neg rep and was being punished.

I think that it would be helpful if we could view the rep that we have given to others as well as what we have received...

Anyway, thanks again, Charlie D.

 Okay, here's a dumb question:

What's the diffence between the light greenies and the dark greenies by a poster's name?

Whoops...that makes two for blah-blah...and one to Charlie for fessin' up...the truth sets you free...or somethin' like that. :)
