Mixed Play at all skill levels.

Everyone's welcome. I don't see how females are at a disadvantage in billiards.
Ive lost to the young, old, sick, male and female. The balls dont seem to discriminate.

I played in a Tournament at Slates in S. Florida. The gals of the Pink Flamingo Tour were there. I drew 3 of them. The first I had her 3-0 she came back and won the match. Double elimination. I beat the next. The 3rd was quite a good player. She killed me. I did my best to hang in there. They were decent shooters. They knew how to play the game.
How did it feel losing to them...same as losing to a guy. I did enjoy a mixed crowd. Everyone was there to play pool. It's the different personalities that make it interesting and fun.

We are contemplating some serious Handicap Tournaments ($250,000.00). 5-12 speed.
Would Karen Corr be a 12 Speed, like SVB & Daz, or would she be a 10 or 11 Speed...?
How about Melissa, what would you rate her compared to the men listed above?
How about Monica, Jeannette, Janet Emily & on & on & on....?
It's obvious that we have to get their rating correct.
I would use FargoRate and use their Fair Match to determine the races. It will be more accurate than any jury-rigged system, IMHO.
But even if you don't do that, you could use FargoRate to peg them to other players and use your own system.
Karen is a 725; SVB is 823; Daz is 791. Karen's rating would put her at about #78 in the top 100 US males, right around Ike Runnels and Lee Heuwagen.
All of the other women are on the list too (for example, Melissa Herndon has a provisional rating of 637; Monica Webb is established at 686, Emily Duddy is established at 599 and Jeanette is established at 677.

I.m not so sure I like the idea of a serious handicap tournament....
...I ran a lot of them at snooker and pool but I liked to keep it at the recreational or semi-serious level.
And it will never be bang-on...if you did your job perfectly, some will play over their head and some will play under their ability.....and then the whining starts.
For a serious handicap tourney, I think handicapping it by graduated entry fees works best....everybody plays even, no long races.
If you make a mistake on the handicapping, you're only depriving the total purse of a few dollars.

This seems like a crazy idea! Handicapped tournaments are cool b/c everyone has a chance to win but they mostly only work on a local level where everyone knows everyone. If you have a $250,000 tournament you're going to get a lot of unknown players which will result in major handicapping flaws. There is also a lot of bias (unintentional and intentional) with players that you know personally.
How will you handle the handicapping? Can anyone join the tourney?
the best handicappers i've ever known always talked about ratings should be up to 15.....and the best player in world at said dicipline like say effren in his prime would have been the one pocket 15......and everyone else gets in line.....ad no way would any woman be the same speed at SVB, DAZ or any of those guys, their only chance is jasmin in the 14.1 really.....
its not physical at all....best i could comment women vs men is that possibly its just a more dominate killer instinct from a man and generally women are more apt to safe the safe, a guy would bust out and slam the ball in on the kick......
men are more ballsy, i think it works out well.....because i dont think its a debate that relies on them being lesser cueists by any means.....

Thanks for your input. In a Tournament that pays out $250,000.00, to a man or a woman, handicapping is really important. Using the Fargo format may well be a great way to start.
