Monica Webb

Really good analysis here, by someone who is battling all the time against these other women.

Like Melissa, I really like Monica if they decided to get down on the table and go at it. Monica is a scrapper. I don't see a match like this happening though. I think both Allison and Karen are content with the position they have in the Pool world. If Monica wants these two scalps, she will have to do it in a tournament format.

On the other hand, if you are talking One Pocket, Monica is a big favorite over all the women with the exception of Vivian and Jeanette. I'd pay money to see these three play some high dollar One Pocket. I can't think of a fourth women who belongs in this group.

OK, just so I have a point of reference, what would those three need against a top one pocket male player like Chohan or Scott Frost?

Karen plays good for money. She beat the 9ball ghost on a triple shim table races to 11. 2 sets in a row for $1k

When a player wins a qualifier, they only attain semi-pro ranking. Mike is correct that a player must have 4 top-half finishes in one year in order to attain professional status.

In 2008, we will be making some changes to the way we do things. Stay tuned for press releases!!!

Well, thank you very much Melissa.

I heard on Runout Radio.com that Monica wants to play Karen or Allison a 10 ahead set. I have heard she plays a notch higher for the $$ head to head. Johnnyt

They'd need about 12 to 5 - and I think they'd still have a little the worst of it with that game.

We've heard from knowledgeable and respected members of the pool community & forum in the shape of sjm, Blackjack, & Jay that Monica has a realistic shot winning against both players mentioned. If you or anyone else has a differing opinion maybe state it in a more respectful and intellectual manner? Thanks. :)

yesterday a friend of mine ( he does not post on AZB ) who is well versed with pro pool( both mens and womens) called me to express his astonishment at how even some of the knowledgeble people (like some you mentioned) could believe that she has a chance against karen. Before he called me,my friend had discussions with one of the `Pundits` of propool and the that `pundit` also felt that she has no chance against karen.

PS: No female on the planet earth can beat Karen in 9 ball if Karen gets mad

I think some of you are missing the point. Monica states herself that she is not "calling them out"...she isn't disrespecting Karen or Allison...she isn't mouthing off. I know Monica...and I know that Monica would just love to play that session, win or lose. And yes, I believe that she likes her odds playing under winner breaks, long session, pool hall conditions....but I do not believe that she thinks she has the nuts.

She just wants to play. Win or lose, it would be good for her. The session itself will be the benefit...the money wouldn't mean much. I used to be like that....I didn't care if the game was tough....I just wanted to play. I wanted to challenge myself....and I wanted to gamble with certain players in order to better my mental game.

Monica has beaten both of them in tournament already. She has been ranked as high as #3....and she stays consistently in the top 6. She gambles...and anyone who knows her knows that she gambles well. She is working with Tony Crosby...and I am sure that she wants a long session to get in a groove with some of things he has been teaching her.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, their favorite player, etc. But do not disrespect this player who has the heart and the guts to stand up and say that she would like to play #1 or #2. She didn't say she was going to pummel them....she didn't say they couldn't play unless they had tournament conditions....she didn't call them out. I don't think either Allison or Karen would be offended or feel disrespected by Monica's words. So why should any of you?

Monica just wants to play. She should have respect from each and every one of you for that, regardless of whether or not you think she can win.

Another good post! My read exactly. Monica "knows" she is not the favorite. She just wants to play, to challenge herself. That's how we get better.

Once again, my feeling is Monica is an underdog playing Karen, but not a big one. I just think Monica gambles better. She doesn't have to get mad. She just has to get a game.

Tell you what I really think. If they played long enough and Monica fell into stroke, everything might change. She might become the favorite. Remember tournament pool is far different than gambling. You have to win right away. Playing ten ahead, it's all about who has the most heart and determination. I've seen Monica get that look on her face, and when she does those balls are at her mercy.

DeadPoked,
You can take the boy out of the country, but you CAN'T take the country out of the boy.
I have only been posting here for a short time, but one thing that I have learned during this time,is there are a lot more unknowledgeable posters than knowledgeable ones,in regard to how strongly players play.I'm not trying to disrespect anyone, and I understand that every one has an opinion on this. But I find it funny how some people express their opinion, which neither you or I can do anything about.Keep in mind after every thing is said and done, you will be you ,and I will be me.

It looks like it is all talk and no action.some body should come forward and stake these two great female players.I want to watch that match if it is held in a central location like Dallas or Memphis.
