Well written TOMHAY
Thinking back to when I was a teenager and taking my new palmer (#10)
to the poolhall to shoot some pool. Well that cue my friends was a true monster to me. here I sit 35 years later smiling at the thoughts of how I felt back then.
anyone got a silver original by palmer foil??? my #10 could use one

I think it will have different meanings to different people. In an effort not to up anyone or down anyone the original 2 piece Hoppe was a MONSTER and wholesale on it was $19.95.

The time I write of for me was in the 1960's. You opened the Tube and formaldahyde filled the air and everyone in the room knew someone got a new Hoppe. On that day no one could beat you. The cue itself turned you into Superman. You could feel things on the table you never felt before, you became the MONSTER.

Today it is still one of the most sought after and copied cues.

Yeah, I believe in Monsters and the term has more meaning to me than BFF and things like that.

Solid from the bumper to the tip. It aint about money, its about heart and strength.

Everything you said is true. Time periods and what is the latest and greatest are factors for sure. Nice addition...

Just my 2 cents...but I always thought that the term "Monster" player/cue refer to the playability of the cue and not so much reference to the design. You can have a sup up cue with all the exotic inlays and complex design but if the cue can't shoot for crap...I don't care if if glow and shine ....it's not a monster to me.

While an old beat up Gus cue that plays light out, warped old Southwest or the Gina with their amazing shafts that cue dances and sing when you hit the cue ball are generally monster cues to me.

I've played with all kinds of cues and "Monster" is what I reserved for my best playing cues and it can be a schon or any high end cue. You really have to play with the cue to know if it's a monster. A super high end...unhit to me is not a monster. It's all about playability to me.

Duc.
