I have heard through my suppliers that the moori tips that are available today might be the last of them. Whatever is out there is what there is, this is a rumor but all I know is that you cannot buy 100 moori tips at this time. Does this mean the price of Moori tips will be going up again? The last time this happened the prices went up to $60.00 a tip installed. If you want any Moori tips get them while there are still some available. I hope this does not happen I think the soft moori is the best tip ever made.
 
I guess this is something nobody knows about. We all expect Atlas and Nielsons to always have product on demand.
 
Myself i think it is a ripoff to charge that kind of money to put a tip on. It only takes all of 5 minutes to do. I can get tips for about $15.00 a piece and i would never charge anyone 45 bucks just to install it. People that charge that kind of money are just greedy (JMHO)
 
i wouldn't be surprised if there is a run on moori tips now. i used to post on a cigar board (and smoke a lot of stogies) that a close-out on a particular brand would cause a feeding frenzy. i think az'ers here have that kind of market strength.

I have no idea why there is a shortage but I do know that due to the ALL TIME LOW in the value of the U.S. dollar, EVERYTHING that is imported from Europe or the far or middle east is skyrocketing in price.

That means that foreign manufacturers must either raise their prices (in dollars) or face erosion in their profit margins.

That encourages the manufacturer to sell their products to contries other than America whose currencies are more valuable.

But this seller's price for the tips is only $12.50 so I can't imagine anyone paying $60.00 installed. I have used Moori tips for years but can't remember paying more than $25.00.

I won't pay anywhere near that price. I have switched to Talisman mediums for all replacement tips and they seem to play just as well at half the price. I haven't had one delamination out of 12 tips. My local cuemaker puts them on with a lathe, perfectly shaped for $15...Tom

Mr. Gulyassy is speaking of a time (around 12-15 years ago) when, depending on where you had to by the Moori tip, they were selling for up to $30.00 per tip, and $60.00 installed.

I wouldn't say that people paid it without blinking an eye, but they blinked their eye, then paid it. Many wanted both shafts fitted with them and there was NO BREAK in the price.

Greedy? Well that's a matter of opinion. There are many things in this world that would shock you as far as how cheap it is verses what you pay.

I don't think a hard tip would miscue more. They are just hitting it on the wrong spot. The only problem I have with mooris, they glaze very quick after a few hits. If they glaze, they don't hold chalk that well anymore.

The Mori hard is all i play with. I have an Ob-1 with the mori tip on it and i have had it for 2 years now and have had no trouble with it. When i herd ther were changing the hardness of it i bought a bunch of them for stock. I have herd that the had they have now is like a medium from a year ago. I dont know this for sure its just what i was told
 
who actually makes Moori and why all the damn supply problems for so many years?

some kind of artificial delays to justify their prices?

When I discovered the Moori Soft tip I thought it was the best tip i've ever played with and since I do cue repairs i've tried most of the tips that are on the market.

It was about 8 or 9 years ago before Atlas had a distributorship for Moori. They were almost impossible to get. I was getting them from Germany. My connection would fly in to a nearby airport and get me 20 or 30 tins of tips. I would hand off the money and we had a very lucrative business. I was selling the tins for $500.00 to $750.00 sometimes even $1000.00 a tin and could not get enough. When they were not available they were being installed at the Super Expo for $60.00 apiece. I remember when Ted had 100's of shafts that required Moori tips. I had several but Ted was the man at the Expo back when it first started. I remember him working almost every hour of everyday and he had to stay after the show ended to finish most of the Moori work. Back then the Japanese cue dealers would bring tins of Moori tips and use them as money, they were more like gold. People used to pay whatever the person wanted because there were no alternative tips, no Hercules or Sniper or Talisman. It was a different pool world back then. Imagine only 2 cue repairmen at the Super Expo with 10,000 players. I remember back 20 years ago when the Moori first came over to the US and cue makers talked of a tip that brought $40 or $50. I thought that there could not be a tip better than a La Pro or a Triangle.

Come on mike, the kamui-m- that came out in 2005, is 10 times the tip any moori ever was. And since then How many kamui's have been put on? I bought them from Japan when knowbody but a couple people even knew about them. And have never once regreted it. I paid 13.70 a tip and spent 1500. Just to put them on all my cues. Mike from Omega made a grate decision to handle them. (remember to change your tip before giving up on your cue) best hit ivory ferrule and Kamui- mark I feel that cuemakers will pretty soon just put the Kamui on from the start. All cues play better with no proporsity from the tip. like always just my 2 cents. mark

I buy mine from South Korea, in Washington state where own a pool room / Pro-shop and retail store I only charge $25 for Moori Tips installed. However, I also have two import lines of tips that I bring in to the US from Korea that are layered. I am the only source for these tips in the USA, and many of my customers who use to only use Moori tips like them. If Moori stops making tips I think people will just change what they use, in my opinion Moori tips are over priced anyway.
 
Time to switch to Kamui's! or possibly sniper's. I'm anxious to try the Kamui myself.

Hey I don't wanna hijack this thread, but when you guys DO put a tip on like the Kamui, do you leave a big ass chunk of tip on there like the guy in the Kamui video, or do you trim it down?
