Sorry if my posts are getting annoying, but more pics:

Semi-Finals #2 : Hohmann scratches off his break shot. Leaves Max the following rack. Max spots a dead combo, nails it and starts his run:

Hohmann's last 3 balls - I was talking to Bobby Hunter after the finals and he was mentioning how horribly Hohmann played the last rack. He left this 3-ball cluster untouched until the very end of the rack, and when Hohmann finally broke them up this is what he was left to run. All he needed were these last 3 balls to win the World Championship, and it wasn't going to be easy:

And finally, your medalists.

Each received a medal. Hohmann holds two awards: one for the title, and the other for the high run of the tournament (174 and out against Schmidt):

I was using an ISO setting of between 100 and 200 (400 if I needed an action shot) depending on the shot and how close I wanted to zoom (which dictates max aperture and influences shutter speed). I reduced all of these from 3072 x 2304 pixels to the size you see them now (roughtly 700 x 500) so the originals are huge.

If anyone wants the originals to print out or use as wallpaper I'm happy to send. I've also got about 200+ more pics that I haven't posted (and probably won't due to time constraints).

Great pictures, Steve! :)

By the way, what kind of camera did you use to take the pictures?

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned, but how did they differentiate 3rd place (Max) from 4th place (Mika) in this tournament?

Great pics!

looks like they followed the traditional 14.1 method
Ball Count<total balls scored>

Well, as long as there is no money difference, I guess that's fine. Right off the bat, though, I can see a potential problem in that they might not have played the same number of matches. In the double-elimination portion of the tournament, it was possible for one person to play three matches (two wins and one loss) and another person to play two matches (two wins only) and be in the same position at the end of the day.

And an extra match, even though a loss, might add another 120 points to his tally, no?

I guess I'd just rather see a 3rd/4th place medal for both of them, but that is a small complaint for such a wonderful event...

I don't blame Hohmann; He was like finishing the last couple of hundred yards of a marathon.

He shot over 1,000 balls over the course of five days was it? Under the bright lights of a World Championship, no less. And forget about preparation he must have put in.

I mean, can you imagine?

I dont think anyone can blame him. He actually played almost flawlessly from the start of the final match. Engert broke, left the cue ball almost in the jaws of one of the head pockets and Hohmann nails a super long straight shot and runs a 93 from the break. So with that in mind, and his week long of play I can forgive the last 3 balls (tho if he had missed the 11, I might be saying something else!)

Thanks for the extra pictures, they look great. It was a pretty lucrative trip to the US for Engert, between second place in the 14.1 and winning the UPA event.

I guess when you're as good as Thorsten is you can do the strange part the hair down the middle thing. Hell maybe it's a tribute to Greenleaf lol.
