When Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs, "Bobby Riggs Who?" the world knew who Billie Jean was, no one outside of tennis knew Bobby. Do the same, take a very likeable, outspoken, colorful gambler pool player that plays well and make this the challenge of the sexes, not Johnny Archer against WPBA chosen one. The sizzle sells to America not the name of the American male player. If I was to guess, Bobby Riggs was NOT even a pro tennis player when he matched up and lost to Billie Jean, he was a gambler/hustler.
My vote would be, Dave Gomez against Janette Lee.

Not that anything you said is wrong; but Bobby Riggs was the #1 men's professional player for a couple of years in the 40's. You were right that he was no longer a pro when he matched up with Billie Jean but then again he had an excuse, he was FIFTY-FIVE years old.

I saw that match on tv, and as I recall it wasn't very close. She cleaned the court up with him.

It should also be noted that at the time Billie Jean was at the pinnicle of her career, and was routinely licking everyone on the ladies tour....

But my point is, the WPBA is saying they are unwilling to help the men's tour, because they feel there is none of structure or what ever. I'm saying just do a fun BATTLE OF THE SEXES Match, Allison or whomever against a guy, how difficult can that be???????

Lets be honest

The main thing that sells the WPBA tour is the potential sexual appeal, and other than Allison or Karen's level of play, it is not that much of a draw.
Men are dogs, and they would sniff out anything with potentially attractive women in it, and the women identify somewhat with the female pros, especially if they could beat a man at anything.

Not much has changed in seven years. The men have no real, sustainable tour. The ladies have a tour that has grown consistently for thirty years. The ladies still draw a decent rating on ESPN, but don't have a deal with ESPN.

If the men pros play thiiiis much better than the lady pros, the ladies market themselves thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much better than the men.
