I haven't played an hour of pool (at one time) in years and visited the diamond in my basement recently...couldn't run 5!balls with ball in hand for about a half an hour.
I cannot play a little anymore.

if blacky cant run 5 balls think about all the others that have to spend ten minutes chalking up and putting their sticks together.
even a very decent player goes a long time not running 3 racks out of 8. with where the cue ball lands on the break.
not many would i stop betting with at that game..
sure the players here are better than what we might see on league night. but in general many are really just rec. players that may only hit balls on league night. nothing wrong with that.

If we're only talking about what causes "skids", neither the table nor the player cause it - except maybe excess chalk on the table sticking to the balls.

You are correct. But it wasn't 100 breaks. It was more like 35-40. Of those 35-40 I had 8 spreads that I felt I should get out from. I hosed up five and got out three times.
I did manage to get this spread out earlier today though:
I have no idea who DCP really is so I can only work off of what he says and the pictures he posts. Every runnable table he posts is beyond runnable, it is wide open. Top players even upper level amateurs look at a table with one or two problems and decide how to solve those problems before their first shot. The plan may have to change on the fly but they have a plan to run out probably over fifty percent of racks when they make a ball on the break. That isn't to say how many they actually get out, but they have a plan.
If you don't have a plan to get out over 50% of racks after a break and a ball down, you need to diagram or photograph table layouts after breaks and practice pattern recognition and breaking up clusters. Some other good info out there but I can vouch for Lil Joe Villalpando's DVD's if you can get them. Gonna look around one day and not be able to get them. They will cover the basics and all of your posts on here indicate you being weak on the basics. You can't run before you can walk.
On the other hand, you have been around long enough to be world class and shitting all of us!

Not all of the racks I do run are wide open. Sometimes they actually have some difficulty. Earlier today I actually got out the rack diagrammed below. Not an extremely difficult spread but it wasn't easy either.
I'm not world class. Unfortunately.
And as is the case with any rack - wide open or difficult - ANY SHOT CAN BE MISSED AND ANY POSITION CAN BE MISSED!

The pursuit of perfection, and free beer, made me a pool player. Definitely not in that order!
That is a much more typical spread. When you get out on a table like that as often as not you will win in pretty good competition. It is easy to think the pro's play like we see on TV and video. That is how they play after days of tuning in battle.
