More sad news

Pretty strong crew there, and yes they all played together many times. I was often the TD for events they played in. Keith and Kim ruled California pool back in the 80's and 90's, unless Swanee decided to show up. He was right there with them. No question these three were the top dogs on the Coast along with Dan Louie up North. Morro and Ernesto were rated just under these three guys. Bottom line - Swanee ruled in San Diego, Keith the rest of Southern Cal and Kim was the man in Northern Cal. Doc Brienza was second to Kim up North.

In the Northwest it was all Dan Louie with Rich Geiler second in the pecking order.

As I heard it, Louie and Keith hustled around over and over to play Buddy in Sherieveport.

Buddy would bust them and then they would start again. Buddy plays here and said he admired their heart.

Did Keith and the rest of the California boys do the same thing to Swanee in SD?

NOBODY went looking for Swanee in San Diego! The road men steered clear of the whole city for fear he would get called. Keith and Swanee fought tooth and nail a couple of times and after that it was only in tournaments where they met. Swanee had nerves of steel and could play for very high stakes. He often got flown in to play when a hustler was robbing an area. He always came back with some money too. Usually a healthy bundle.

Keith and Buddy had a lot of mutual respect for each other. They were the two best money players of their generation. At least in 9-Ball. Even in tournaments no one wanted to draw either one of them. Buddy was the steadier of the two though, for reasons I won't go into here. I have zero complaints about Keith though. I won literally tens of thousands with him over the years. When he was right (i.e. straight) no one had to like it!

As for Louie, his shooting was superlative but his cue ball would stray sometimes. Buddy gave him the seven on several occasions and took the money down. I don't think Keith was in with Louie. He knew better.

I'M STAYING! I know many of you would like to see me go, but I've decided to stay on for at least another year or two or maybe even three.
So suffer!

Your threats don't scare me, Helfert.

Happy New Year, buddy.
