More Speed Control Shots/Problems

here's a couple of more examples of how i hose myself when it comes to speed control on shots. again, both of these simply boil down to speed, getting on the proper side of the 2-Ball to make the shot to the 3-Ball as natural as you can.

most of the time i will leave the shots at Point B instead of getting to Point A for the perfect position, and the natural angle.

Here's another position path to practice.. And that's really the point.. You need to PRACTICE difficult position routes.. No way around it...

you can get on the 2 fairly easy using just about center with a touch of Left spin, Letting the cue ball roll up table, If your table is slow or the humidity is high it might be easier to draw the cue ball. If you hit to high you will go between the 8 and 6 ,to low and you will be on the wrong side of the 2. With a good stroke and a pretty fast table this to me is alot more simple than drawing the ball, but either will work just fine.

SPINDOKTOR

BK has a very good tape called the tight pocket 60 min workout, where he basically sets up a bunch of routine cuts and then shows how you can consistently send the cueball through the center of the table. He also stresses center of the table position routes in his video about dealing with hangers. Not all of his stuff is great but this center-of-the-table concept was for me. Spend a few hours with it and you'll do better on shots like this (which is pretty close to one of his center of the table shots iirc).

I think draw is the right way to play it, I wouldn't want to play dodgedick with the 6 and 8. I also wouldn't try just 1 rail and straight up the table because the angle looks kinda small so you'd need a fair amount of force, which requires more touch. I think you did it pretty well and just got unlucky on the speed or angle coming off the rail. Both A and B can work tho obviously A is easier.

I think you made the right shot choice, so the problem with this one is execution.

Perhaps you need to work with an instructor on your fundamentals. Perhaps you need to do some speed control drills.

This is another speed drill courtesy of BK. Basically you must go 1 rail and out for every shot, and if you get too much angle you're hosed, and if you get straight you should reset it (even if you could theoretically draw to an ok position). Also reset it if you are forced to use the side rail, head rail, or if you bump another ball.

There's room for error, enough to keep you from going nuts, but it's harder than it looks. I expected to get it first try and was unpleasantly surprised that it took 4 or 5 tries. Don't laugh, try it first. This is a good drill because it's doable but you really need to pick a spot and play the right blend of speed and spin.

If you want to pull your hair out there's another drill where you line up 3 balls near the side rail, and another 3 balls near the opposite side, then try to go 1 rail for each of those. If you try to do it without cheating (i.e. going only one rail, not settling for 2 rail zig-zags) then you will lose your manhood after about the 20th attempt. Don't feel discouraged because it's a real bastard. I wouldn't even try it until you get the first drill twice in a row.
