Morra's position in North America

Morra is drilling Petroni right now in the US Open. I was wondering where people would put him in the placing of North America atm?

Assuming that Alex is considered a Canadian I am going to figure most people put SVB and Alex as the clear #1 and #2 North American players.

Morra got 2nd in the China Open, he gets fairly deep in the extremely strong international events, he has flat out put it on Bergman that he wants to play for big cash and Bergman has not as yet said "ok".

Dechaine and Bergman seem to be the two players that "may" be in the same range at this point. Klatt is extremely strong but at this point I think Morra has become the clear Canadian #2 behind Alex (whereas 5 years ago most people up here in the know would have taken Klatt).

At the end of the day I think if Matchroom wants to sustain the Mosconi Cup and increase the viewership and competiveness of the event they will need to include Canada and make it North America vs Eurpoe and all of the sudden you have Alex and Morra on team North America vs Europe and all of the sudden Team Europe is certainly no longer looking like such a certain bet.

I love the idea of north America vs europe

Love Morra's game, but it seems like he struggles with the end game in tournaments. Gets a lot of 2nd place finishes, but doesn't get to hold the trophy that often.

In fact, I think his last notable win was the DCC 9ball in 2012.

Years ago it was clear it was svb and then Alex... 1-a/1-b... I still think svb is the 1 ... Alex wasn't around for a while .. I thought I remember hearing he was trying snooker. In that time, John got serious and stepped his game up. John and klatt represented canada at the wcop this year and although I think Alex is ahead of klatt I do not believe he is ahead of Morra... They're now the 2-a/2-b ...mike is 2-c btw...

Hiw about JAMES for North America ?

John
Alex
Mike
Earl
Shane

Would leave John out of doubles. He dogged key shots last year and this year at World Cup of Pool :D

I don't think Europe is a great big favorite right now .
I'll take USA and 2 to 1 with the way they pick teams today .

I always have the impression that he's struggling on every shot. I feel tired for him watching him play. His performance proved that he ran out of stamina at the end.
Also, his stroke is somewhat a decelerate stroke
But with all that defauts he's still able to achieve his level today. I wonder how far can he go if he take time to correct these defaults.
He has great attitude toward the game, I respect him for that, but maybe he's trying way too hard and yet find the right balance of concentration and relaxation. He has yet had the "champion's composure". Look at Shane, both Ko, or Wu. You rarely see tension looking at them, they make pool look like a walk in the park

Just for reference, his FargoRate is currently 7th highest among North Americans (but many of these are quite close):

1. Van Boening 822
2. Dechaine 801
3. Bergman 793
4. Pagulayan 792
5. Morris 783
6. Archer 782
7. Morra 780

The way they pick the teams seems to be to give the USA a glimmer of a chance. If they picked the "actual" top team Europe I would give you 2-1 all day. Appleton, Feijen, Oschan, Hohmann, and Nikos or Mika. If you are taking strictly team USA you are taking the worst of it with purely team USA players at 2-1.

You need Alex and Morra to make things close at this point. Team North America can field 5 world class players, team USA cannot.

Banks? I don't think he won the 9 ball, although I may be mistaken.

Team USA still needs a few years of seasoning. It seems like the tournaments are on the up-swing and if there are more next year then maybe the up and coming players can get in enough completion to get their games up under pressure.

I guess I wasn't in the know, because I didn't realize Jason was the better player 5 years ago.

I would put today's top 5 North Amercian players like this:

SVB
Alex
Dechaine
Morra
Bergman

Throwing Johnny Archer on the team would be a good idea, if one of the above players wasn't perceived to be much of a team player.
