Got some news for ya.
Talked to Luke Riches in Matchroom Sports today, and was of course curious about when the first 2 picks will be published.
He told me that they will publish the 2 wild-cards together with the 2 from the ranking at the end of October, so we will know the first 4 players on Team USA in about one month.
He also said that the voting for the last spot will take place at www.matchroompool.com, but I forgot to ask about when this will happen, but obviously it will not happen before the 4 first players have been selected.
The list of players to vote on will consist of about 7-8 players, but I don't know if they will use the BCA ranking only to pick these players, or a combination of that list + some randomly picked names.
Here's an older press-release about Team USA and the selection. They have delayed the picks of the wild-cards till the end of US Open, which makes the selection process more open, imo. NO one can feel that they are guaranteed a spot in this event!
Even Shane and Johnny Archer, which I thought would be automatically picked as nr 3 and nr 4 now in September, still needs to perform at the US Open!
Team USA will be made up of the following five players:
1. The No.1 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
2. The No.2 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
3. Any player
4. Any player
5. The winner of a 'Mosconi Cup Idol' public vote.
Players 1 & 2 will be announced at the close of the US Open, while players 3 & 4 will be announced in September. Players 3 & 4 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.
Since Team USA's comprehensive defeats in '07 and '08, there has plenty of spirited debate as to who should play in order to help turn the tide for Team USA.
On that basis, Matchroom Sport will be using a public vote to select the final member of the American team. Taking place on www.matchroompool.com , a short list will be compiled and will then be thrown open to a public vote!
Further details of this will follow.
