mosconi cup 2019

Do you mean the price of tickets?

No, the Arena size.

Back in the day it was less than 1K, then 1500, now 2500. Seems like every couple of years they bump up the attendance. Now with the payouts being increased by 50%, Are they planning on adjusting the number of seats..?

They will find a venue that handles as many as will pay to see, almost certainly. Butts in seats pay the bills.

I went to two Cups at York Hall in London. It was an awesome location. It was cozy and crowded and very noisy and had a balcony. It also seated maybe 1000. At 2500 (Alexandra Palace) you are looking at something like $250,000 additional in ticket sales. I think that's revenue you can't let slip.

An exception to this is where they hold the World Snooker Championship -- the Crucible in Sheffield which seats around 1000. They could probably sell a lot more tickets in a larger space but it wouldn't be packed as thoroughly and it wouldn't be the special ticket to get.

So, another strategy would be to limit seating and increase ticket prices.

I was at the Mosconi Cup in Vegas last year, and due to the ticket sales website malfunctioning for many of us, ended up sitting near the back of the venue at MB. I think they said it seated 1500 and I will say that even from the back, the viewing was pretty good.

One thing they could improve upon, and if they increase the number of folks in the audience I really hope they would consider this, is instead of having 2 smaller TV's on each side, above the playing area for the audience to look at, that they would just go to 1 big TV right in the middle of each side above the playing area. From where I was sitting near the back, the size of the picture on the smaller TV's was usually about exactly the same size as the action I could see from my seats. They really were never useful. Going with one larger TV would actually be a lot better. I know that we don't go to a live event to watch it on a TV, but there are times/critical shots where if a closer view is available, I would have definitely liked to have it.

I'm very glad to hear they are giving a bump to the players pay. This may encourage one or two USA players who felt they couldn't commit to the events necessary to try to make the team, to give it a shot with a bigger payday possible on the back end.

I hear ya Bob. I just think increasing attendance will not only hurt the event in the long run, but will hurt team USA, much more than team Europe.
There is no reason the visiting team fans should out number the home teams, and this is exactly what will happen in the US, if they grow to big.
Especially, if they keep it in Vegas...(which is my favorite city in the world)...:(

Euro's fan base is way bigger......

That's a pretty close minded thought process. Imagine if Bob Kraft wanted to make Gillette stadium smaller and open to 90% patriots fans and 10% away team. You think that's an intelligent business model? As people said above, you want more butts in more seats. Doesn't matter if they are team Europe, wanderers from the ping pong convention across the street or drunk gamblers that don't know any of the players names. It means more money in the pot - more attention to the game.

No intelligent money making industry in the world will intentionally stonewall a bunch of customers that want to give them money, its just idiotic. Only reason its not in bigger venues already is because there isn't enough people willing to buy tickets, why further limit that? I want to see a mosconi cup with as many people as you can reasonably fit that can still see the table and players up close.

Nope, comparing American football to Mosconi Cup is idiotic.... Home team "Always" has the crowd advantage. That's my point.

Personally, I would rather see the price increase, over increasing the attendance.

Let me know when they come for your opinion on the matter, i'll hold my breathe.

Point is, they are trying to make money and grow the sport. Limiting people who can come is not how you accomplish that. I would give you another example to help you get it, but you will just try to pick it apart and discredit it again when in reality, its true.
