Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

I found the entire press conference a complete joke and a perfect example of why pool remains in the sports industry gutter. To follow up all the garbage comments and amateur theater with her immediately shilling for ticket sales before closing the conference seemed perfect, they can't even sell out the marquee event in their own backyard!

Do they really think this event/league/tour can compete with legitimate sports on the world stage? Why would any sponsor want to get involved in this mess? I feel like I've had the wool pulled over my eyes the last few years by Matchroom and their big talk but this all just seemed like a joke, right down to the ugly red and blue couches. Pool will remain in the dumpster with the likes of Jason Shaw being its spokesperson.
let’s face it, pool will never be a spectator sport. I don’t mind a little drama and trash talking to get some people interested k

LOL, the exchange was kind of useless - Shaw only brought it up to stir the pot and succeeded. You guys "ascared" of him, haha, he's such a wordsmith, but the good one was "we beat you with Mickey Mouse last year". Kind of a verbal pillow fight, can't say anyone looked good doing it, but don't take the bait! In the long run, of the 11,000 or so views so far (not a lot) I doubt most got to the end anyway.

11K for a dumb ass press conference. I think they might consider that a win.

both things were obviously true and stung a little bit, but the difference is that filler deserves to be there. and usually proves it in ways that borders on cruelty
And the biggest barker in the barkfest is the one who does NOT deserve to be on the team based on ranking points, much less a captain. Just saying.

I found the exchange awkward, with Tyler and Jayson going back and forth, as if Joshua Filler was not even sitting in the room. Once again, Joshua exhibited maturity and remained silent, much like he did when he was being viciously attacked on social media by sucker-punching cyberbullies.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking first 2 matches could go either way, but Europe big favourites for 2nd 2 matches. Though you could argue match 4 America has 2 experienced players v rookies and you never know how they handle the crowd.

British so supporting Europe, but really hope its aclose contest. Really look forward to Mosconi and Reyes and for me it's a let down when they are one sided, whether my side is winning or losing

Will look forward to watching matches today to the extent work doesn't interfere, lol, but watched a decades old Mike Sigel match on YouTube last night that was a lot more entertaining than anything I'll probably see at the Mosconi Cup just for the commentary (Billy, Grady, Buddy) - free wheeling conversation and entertaining while watching good shotmaking.

Shaw's pretty much a dim bulb and taking a press conference to a place to appeal to IMO the lowest common denominator (only thing missing was "your mum told me Shane didn't want him on the team while I was shagging her last night) didn't do much for the event, but it's not like the rest of the press conference was riveting. It's not a football match but that seems to be Shaw's approach - no doubt he'll enjoy strutting about if the one goes in on the break.

I just don't follow enough or hear enough live interviews with players to have much insight into their personalities but it's like almost all the other players wanted nothing to do with the nonsense Shaw was talking and almost reluctantly you have someone like Tyler feeling like he has to say something - I mean is that really the kind of experience the rookies wanted for a first press conference or to kick off their first Mosconi Cup? I'm guessing not.

I swear, this site has more cranks, cynics and ... purists per capita than any other chatboard in the world. God love AZB.

I, for one, am excited as usual for the Mosconi. Hopes spring eternal. Many consider the event a mere exhibit, but the players sure don't. They all want to win. I view the event as one of three most compelling in the sport, along with the U.S. Open and finals of the WPC.

To each their own.

Emily gave an hour long interview with a UK podcast the other day. Repeated her intention to have another big event in the U.S. next year.

She also indicated the U.S. is where WNT.TV has the most subscribers and where MR still thinks there is a lucrative market to be tapped.

Pool does not make money, she repeated. The Mosconi helps fund much of the WNT tour.

MR has seen an appreciable uptick this year in page views online that is moving the needle. Whether that translates into advertisers and ad dollars remains to be seen.

Pool is unlikely to really break through in the UK, she said. The growth is in the US and Asia, she argued. The Florida Open seems etched in stone even after just its inaugural event. The Philippines Open also seems to have gotten MR all excited.

I reckon we need to win 1 of the first 3 otherwise it will be a quick death. Win the team and it gives a good buzz to the team. Win Fedor and Svb and it sets them both up to play well. Win the captains match and that will make the whole team happy!

Btw can’t believe I am saying » we ». I’m a Brit living in North America but I can’t help but want the Americans to win!!

NB. Josh showed himself to be very mature and rose above it yesterday. Also loved SVB sits smiling to himself about it all

What was Joshua going to say? He really has no defense for his actions last year. He pissed off a lot of people, and they had a right to be pissed off.

I don't hold it against him. Tough situation for the players all around. Moritz said Team Europe cleared the air during the first few days of their two-week training. All is good now and bygones are bygones.

Not sure about anyone else, but i'm ready for this beating to start. Actually excited for Match 2, that could be really good if all parties are on their game. It will certainly set the tone for the event.

It was dumb, but Jayson's not wrong: Filler is a monster. He also seemed ready to throw out the Lukas wedge before Tyler even brought up Filler.
That exchange re: Filler and Lukas seemed to catch Josh and SVB off-guard. "I didn't sign up for this" type expressions from both of them.

The US is something like 7-17 the last 24 MC's, some by truly lopsided scores. Excuse the fk out of me if i refrain from considering this event 'compelling'. Hey, i'm sure Custer's Last Stand was compelling but do i wanna watch it?? I can't watch til tomorrow or Friday and i hope there's something left to watch.
