Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

Leftover thoughts:

*The team could have been competitive this year. They played hard. They coughed up at least four matches and had 2-0 leads in at least three or four losses. But they simply do not prepare as well as the Euros. Sky is the worst, but every player choked except perhaps for SVB.

The lesser talented team has to prepare harder to have any chance, plain and simple

*For those wanting a team makeover, remember, three players get on the team on points. This year it was SVB, Gorst and Styer.

*Karl Boyes says playing captains have to go. If he is saying it, it means Frazer is on board, too. He would not say it otherwise. Team USA needs a good coach.

*No playing captains means Woodward has to earn it. Sure, he might be a wild card pick, but a nonplaying coach might decide otherwise.

*Jesus Atencio lives in the US and his wife is American. Would look very weird to have two noncitizens on the team, however. I think at least one has to get, you know, citizenship. Thorsten Hohman is a US citizen now and he could make a legit play for Team USA.

*I decided I am fine with all the noise. Other players in other sports learn how to handle crowds. Pool players can do so to in a unique event like the Mosconi.

Based on Frazer's comments the 2026 WNT Season is shaping up like this:

JANAURY - WNT Legends

FEBRUARY - Premier League of Pool in Miami, Florida.

Top 8 ranked players and 8 wild cards. Current top 8 is Gorst, Biado, Yapp, Chua, Filler, Kaci, FSR and Labutis.

MARCH - UK Open

MAY - European Open

JUNE/JULY - WPC. Matchroom would do well to schedule before or after the World Cup.

AUGUST - Florida Open, US Open and possibly one other event Frazer has been teasing.

OCTOBER - Hanoi Open, Philippines Open, Reyes Cup

NOVEMBER - Mosconi in Florida. Last week of November.

No word on World Pool Masters or World Cup of Pool. These events might be gone for good.

The WCP hasn't been held since 2023. The WPM was not held this year.

They don't have to put ppl in. Doesn't have to be the hall of very good
Except they have put a player in, sometimes two, every single year. They won't skip over Jayson/simply not choose anyone when he turns 40 because they don't think his resume is good enough. He has the resume and certainly enough fame/influence on the game required to get in.

From the BCA HoF website:

"The purpose of the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame is to honor outstanding people who, through their competitive skills and dedication, have enriched our sport and industry.

Two categories have been established in Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame. The Greatest Player category shall be reserved for outstanding players who have been active in national or international competition for at least 20 years and have won at least one national or international championship."

I was just reminiscing when I wrote that post about the RSB Google Group, my very first experience with social media, long before I emigrated to AZBilliards. Smorgie invited me to come here. I was pretty green back then and hadn't yet learned about the lasting repercussions of words in print. I took a few lumps along the way from some well-timed sucker punches by the local monkeys. :)

This was in the era of dial-up modems. When I posted on RSB, it could take half a day or more for my message to appear. Meanwhile, Lou and a few others had already upgraded to faster bandwidth, so their posts showed up instantly. I remember one time Lou took a jab at me in response to something I'd written, and his reply appeared immediately. My fingers were itching to fire back, and I did, but then came the wait and the wait and the wait for my reply to finally post. Those back-and-forths were pretty historic in their own way, and some of the old RSB crowd have passed away, but there's still a lot of them here on AzBilliards today.

Good grief, woman!

Let's not get all sentimental and sloppy and weepy about those days gone by, lol.

Well, shoot. OK, maybe just a little:

One thing the Mosconi Cup has shown is that 9 ball on a tight pockets is the most exciting format of pool.

I know Ultimate Pool are thinking of doing their own version of the Mosconi, but I am struggling to get excited for that.

A 7ft table with buckets won't create the same level of excitement.

The Palace in Bellflower Ca had 2 Bwick 9' ers shimmed to about that size. Wish all pool tables had been like that.
