Souquet's 56 match wins at the Mosconi Cup is one of the safest records in all of sports.

It will be hard for anyone to match/surpass Souquet’s 56 total MC match wins. Maybe Filler in another 15 years from now.
Hey, SVB has 49 match wins now, just 7 short of Souquet. But I think I read or heard that SVB mentioned stopping his Mosconi Cup career at 20 appearances. Seven or 8 more wins is possible for him in 2 more years, but he needs some good rolls.;)

He's gonna need minimum 5 years to reach Souquet 🤣

Problem is, he's still gonna be top 2 in america 10 years from now, unless he quits or we get more Euro citizens

Does Shawn Putnam still play pool? I was just watching the "Bad Blood" match between Archer and Earl and he was commentating- which made me wonder what he's been up to. Haven't heard about him playing tournaments in at least 10 years.

Another guy I was wondering about was Stevie Moore. Does he still play?

Moore quit at least 5yrs ago. Putnam was making cues last i heard.

Re: Perfect Records

Update of Post #75 to include Neuhausen's record in the 2025 Cup:

Lee and Villarreal, with 5-0 records, and Neuhausen, with a 6-0 record, are the only players with perfect career records in the Mosconi Cup. (Of course, they only played one year.)

An undefeated record in a single event has been achieved 17 other times (by 11 other players):

Strickland in 1997 (5-0), 2001 (3-0), and 2005 (4-0)
Jones in 2001 (3-0)
Williams in 2001 (3-0)
Deuel in 2001 (3-0)
Morris in 2004 (5-0) and 2005 (4-0)
Archer in 2012 (6-0)
Souquet in 2008 (6-0) and 2013 (4-0)
Feijen in 2013 (5-0) and 2016 (4-0)
Ouschan in 2016 (5-0) and 2023 (4-0)
Filler in 2017 (5-0)
Alcaide in 2023 (4-0)

So, in total, a player has gone without a loss in a year's event just 20 times out of a total of 354 player appearances (5.6%).

Re: Undefeated in Singles (updating post #48)

Nine players have never lost a singles match in their Cup careers. Melling's 5 singles wins are the most in this group of 9 players:

Villarreal 3-0, 1994
Lee 2-0, 1994
Pierce 4-0, 1997-1998
Owen 2-0, 2004
Hundal 1-0, 2005
Melling 5-0, 2011-2012
Hall 1-0, 2014
Labutis1-0, 2025
Neuhausen 1-0, 2025

[Note: In a sense, Gorst could be added to the list, because he went 1-0 in singles in his only year (2020) on Team Europe. But he has subsequently lost singles matches playing on Team USA.]

No one who has played in 3 or more events is undefeated in singles.

Re: Undefeated in Doubles (updating post #42)

Twelve players have never lost a doubles match in their Cup careers. But 4 of the 12 [Gerni (1994), Tucker (1994), Richardson (1996), Griffis (1996)] never played in a doubles match, so they don't really count. The other undefeated players:

Lee 3-0, 1994
Villarreal 2-0, 1994
Butera 2-0, 1994-1995
Wilson 2-0, 1994-1995
West 3-0, 1994-1995
Wiley 1-0, 1996
Facquet 1-0, 1996
Neuhausen 2-0, 2025

Only Neuhausen is undefeated in doubles in his Cup career since 1996.

No one who has played in 3 or more events is undefeated in doubles.

UPDATE through 2025 Cup

The Van Boening Era in the Mosconi Cup -- Team USA Player Records

This is an update to last year's post #80, comparing Shane Van Boening's Cup record with the records of everyone else who has played on the team with Shane through 2025. He has now played in the Cup for 19 years (2007-2025), and 19 other players have been his teammates. Methods A and B are defined in post #1 of this thread.

Seven of the 19 teammates Shane has had on Cup teams also played on the team in one or more years prior to Shane's first year. The following stats for those 7 players (Archer, Morris, Deuel, Strickland, Jones, Putnam, and Schmidt) exclude those years prior to 2007 (and, so, are different from what is shown in post #1 above). The stats for Shane and for the 12 teammates of Shane who have never played without him are the same as in post #1 above.

• Shane Van Boening (19 yrs. -- 2007-2025) ..... 18-28 s, 23-28 d, 10-13 t, 51-69 total A (43%), 31.5-44.6 total B (41%)

• Skyler Woodward (11 yrs. -- 2015-2025) ..... 10-11 s, 13-21 d, 7-8 t, 30-40 total A (43%), 17.9-23.1 total B (44%)

• Johnny Archer (7 years -- 2007-2013) ..... 6-4 s, 12-10 d, 3-4 t, 21-18 total A (winning percentage of 54%), 12.6-9.8 total B (winning percentage of 56%)

• Earl Strickland (4 yrs. -- 2007-2008, 2013, 2022) ..... 2-5 s, 5-6 d, 2-2 t, 9-13 total A (41%), 4.9-8.4 total B (37%)

• Oscar Dominguez (3 yrs. -- 2009, 2017, 2022) ..... 0-4 s, 3-5 d, 2-1 t, 5-10 total A (33%), 1.9-6.7 total B (22%)

• Chris Reinhold (2 yrs. -- 2020-2021) ..... 0-2 s, 2-2 d, 2-0 t, 4-4 total A (50%), 1.4-3.0 total B (32%)

• Justin Hall (1 yr. -- 2014) ..... 1-0 s, 2-1 d, 0-1 t, 3-2 total A (60%), 2.0-0.7 total B (74%)

• Shawn Putnam (1 yr. -- 2011) ..... 0-1 s, 2-1 d, 0-1 t, 2-3 total A (40%), 1.0-1.7 total B (37%)

• John Schmidt (1 yr. -- 2014) ..... 1-0 s, 0-3 d, 0-1 t, 1-4 total A (20%), 1.0-1.7 total B (37%)

• Brandon Shuff (1 yr. -- 2012) ..... 0-3 s, 1-2 d, 1-0 t, 2-5 total A (29%), 0.7-4.0 total B (15%)

• Shane Wolford (1 yr. -- 2023) ..... 0-1 s, 0-2 d, 0-1 t, 0-4 total A (0%), 0-2.2 total B (0%)

____________________________________________________________________________________________

• Total all 20 players (19 years -- 2007-2025) ..... 56-110 s, 106-154 d, 50-65 t, 212-329 total A (39%), 119-200 total B (37%)

Total excluding Shane Van Boening ..... 38-82 s, 83-126 d , 40-52 t, 161-260 total A (38%), 87.5-155.4 total B (36%)

• Shane Van Boening (19 yrs. -- 2007-2025) ..... 18-28 s, 23-28 d, 10-13 t, 51-69 total A (43%), 31.5-44.6 total B (41%)
____________________________________________________________________________________________

The above stats for players other than Shane include the doubles and teams matches they played with him. If we exclude those and compare the matches in which Shane played vs. those in which he did not play, we have:

Shane's record (Method A)
singles -- 18-28 (39%)
doubles -- 23-28 (45%)

Team USA's match record (Method A) excluding Shane's matches:
singles -- 38-82 (32%)
doubles -- 30-49 (38%)

So Shane has done a bit better than his teammates in both singles (39% vs. 32%) and doubles (45% vs. 38%). And, on the contribution method (Method B), as shown above, Shane's winning percentage is 41% vs. his teammates' 36%.

Only 4 of the 19 players who have been on the team with Van Boening have a higher winning percentage (contribution method) during those years than SVB's 41%:
74% Hall (but only 1 year)
56% Archer
44% Woodward
46% Hatch
