Mosconi Cup Disadvantage?

Jam I agree when the American players are in form and ready to play they are very tough to beat, and I do cheer for them win or lose, but the Euro team is tough right now! They all play strong and are prepared. Team USA needs to prepare more and get more game ready.

If Nick Varner is the future of Mosconi Cup pool for the USA, then god help you..

(NO disrespect to NV. He's ag reat guy)

Europe has had *brief* -- with the emphasis on "brief" -- bursts of pool greatness, but don't ever, ever underestimate the strength of the American pool machine once it gets cranking. From Shane to Nick Varner, we stand ready to battle on a field of tournament blue. You can't win when Americans show up to play.

We don't bite the hand that feeds us and do respect Matchroom Sport for what they bring to pool on a global scale, but we won't bow down to railbird chatter.

JAM I love your enthusiasm but is it no way possible that at the US is not what it perhaps used to be? Could it not be possible that US is not the greatest after all? Perhaps other countries have worked harder and surpassed in skill and depth??
You mention brief, sure...MosconiCup itself is but a brief tournament in the history of pool.....for the last 20 years only....and US dominated the early years when Team EU consisted of combination of pool and snooker players. For the last 12y EU has been on top....and last 7 clearly dominated (in light of the results).
It is not a shame to admit that someone else was better, perhaps they worked harder, put in the hours and are now reaping the rewards.

It is in no way a reflection on the quality of the US players....nobody is saying they are bad....or even that they would be worse than what they were before. They just got outworked I think. It hurts, I understand! But it is nothing more than a sign that one actually HAS TO start approaching the game of pool as sport if one wants to succeed in international tournament-play today...gambling background alone does not quite cut it anymore...

just my 0.02€

Keep thinking that way. I realize this helps Europe to feel good about themselves, even though their pros are moving to America by the droves, but when you least expect it and turn around, that's the American pool might towering over the European one-trick ponies. :embarrassed2:

See ya' but wouldn't want to be ya'. :D

USA, ALL THE WAY!

I personally think we should give these kids a chance before we Damn them. Anything is an improvement from the last few years..

The US only won the MC 3 more times then the Euros in all the years it's been played. Maybe these young guys can stop this losing streak, I hope they are ready and do all they can to prepare.

Losing streak? What, are you kidding me? Just remember this, my little grasshopper. The higher they go, the harder they will fall. Brace yourself.

There will be a new sheriff in the Town of York come December, and he won't be a European.

Better get yourself a recipe for crow pie.:D

4 straight is a losing streak. Your argument makes no sense. Stop trying to fight with me.

If I was fighting with you, you'd know it. :p

YOU make no sense when you say Europe is dominant over America. Get real, man, and face the music. Doom to Team Europe is in the making.

Europe has out played the US team for the last 4 years, and last year was very bad. I dont believe that history helps a team win. I said they have to prepare and be game ready come Dec if they are not, it will not matter who is on the team the result will be bad. so really Jam get real yourself.

Wank, wank, wank on, if that helps you.

I think American teams are at a disadvantage in the Mosconi Cup.

In answer to the opening poster..

This is in fact true - you don't have enough decent pool players.

Perhaps the USA should be kicked out of the event and replaced with someone worthy?

That would be a good move for England to get rid of the competition, so that they can shine. They must be chicken livers for you to make a statement like that.

Just remember this. If it wasn't for American pool, to include Willie Mosconi, England wouldn't even be worthy of mention, and the Mosconi Cup wouldn't be in existence. We taught you how to play 9-ball. Don't ever forget that.

Long live the Queen, but . . .

USA, ALL THE WAY!

Agree. Maybe the problem isn't that the US isn't large enough to produce good players.
Maybe the problem is that the good players never got a shot because matchroom
was obsessed with famous over-the-hill pros from the 80's and 90's.

The worst that could happen is that the new kids get nearly blown out by 11-2,
which is what just happened with the older, more experienced team.
I don't think the youngsters can do any worse.

The UK is mostly known for snooker, a far superior game than pool. Money wise at least, though I personally find it dull to play.

There is a counter to your point however...

Europe (and the UK included) has only really been playing pool seriously for a few years and in that time have swept you away and are consistently miles ahead of you in all regards and competition already.

Bear in mind also that the American pool scene in the UK (with a heavy heavy bias to English pool and snooker) has ah tiny tiny pool to select from - numbering only a few hundred at best.

We have you well beat and we are barely trying..

the reason they are moving to US is money....short and simple (well I believe so anyway). There are more gambling opportunities and money-tournaments there than here.... If they were only considering quality of competition, they might as well stay in Europe or move to Philippines even more likely...

As for the American pool might towering over the European one-trick ponies...hmmm.....I am at loss for words :)
Personally I would love to see Mosconi Cup being played for each discipline....8b, 9b, 10b, 7b, straight, rotation, banks, 1p.... I just do not think you would like the result....in addition to 1p and banks....9b might be the one that gives you the best chances....the rest of them would not be pretty I am afraid.
This is nothing more than my opinion of course...but I do feel I am not alone thinking so... Perhaps the first step towards recovery is to admit the problem that perhaps US is not the best at the moment.....but could be......however it will require a boat-load of work from everyone from grounds up.....

If it makes you feel better to think this way, so be it. You may think snooker is superior, but others may disagree. To each their own when it comes to opinions.

Americans have always been way ahead of Europe in pocket billiard games. England can put up a good fight, but in the end, the Americans will triumph. Look how many years it took United States to be a super power in the world. When push comes to shove, America's might and will power is strong.

Don't count your chickens before their hatched. Doom is on its way.
