Mosconi Cup - other format

I know this horse has been beaten to death more than once. However still I'd like to see the change.

The Euro team consists of players that play perfectly for 9-ball: riskfree, always in line, keep it simple pool. Great fundamentals and ofcourse that often results in brilliant precise shooting.

But I find it quite boring. Ofcourse a flawless runout is nice and sometimes even beautifull. But most of the time it's just boring. I enjoy it most when they run into problems: push outs, getting out of line, safety battles, kicks and jumps... that is when a player is pushed to its limits and when it gets interesting.

A break with the 1 in the side, a clear path and no problems is just a boring rack. I even switch to seomthing else and check back later to see if the rack is done.

Now I know people are going to dislike this: but I would love to see other formats. Bankshot ringgames, 10 ball, 1 pocket and (brace yourselves) Bogus Ball!

Yes, Bonus Ball, the much hated game. But it pushes players to the limits of their game instead of running 'easy' lay outs. Players sometimes take on bankshots to continu their run, shoot 1-pocket like shots and in the final run the pro's make the craziest shots – because thats their only choice.

And furthermore I say: if we leave tradition, then go all the way. Include team Asia and make Team USA Team America.

Yeah, great fundamentals, perfect shape, flawless ball-pocketing. Boo. That's not at all what pool should be about.

Let's switch to games like 1-pocket and banks that Euros don't play, that'll make it fair. Or even better, let's just play baseball. Then we'd have the edge for sure.

Go to Derby City next month. You'll see 10-ball, bank pool, one-pocket, straight pool and, also nine ball. Pool already has a great event for testing all-around excellence and fittingly crowns its Master of the Table at Derby City. Of late, Shane, Dennis and Bustamante have been the ones to beat for Master of the Table, but the game is on again next month!

Your idea of an all-around team event, however, would never fly with Matchroom. It would make for poor TV.

It wont matter..,

We don't have enough Pro Level Players to win against any country in the top tier, China, Europe, Philippines. We have three guys and 5 or 6 maybes, they have whole teams of players.

My favorite game to play, which I think would be great for TV is 2 Rail 11 Ball.

11 balls played in rotation but CB or OBs must hit minimum 2 rails in addition to pocketing a called ball, or else it is a miss and BIH to incoming player.

100% offensive and tests players to their limits with bank shots, power strokes and caroming. Running a rack is a very different sight than running a rack of 9-ball.

Oh, it's scored a point per ball. I usually play races to 41 as sets.

There are games that incite entertaining pool and there are games that incite rather not so entertaining pool.

Think of this: a guy can do amazing throws with a tennisball. He can throw the weirdest trickshots. But there's also another game: throw a tennisball in a bucket 80 yards away.
Thats impressive! And this guy can do it a 100 times in a row. He has amazing fundamentals and does it allmost flawless, scoring 97/100. That is an amazing performance, but very boring to watch.

9-ball fortunatly has more exciting moments, but still you do best when you play very very conservative. I believe that there are other games that push the pro's to their limits. Make them perform shots we didnt even see as an option.

That sounds pretty fun. Never saw it, never played it. Would be great to see pro's play it.

I hear you. 1-pocket is my favorite game to play and to watch.

But it's hard to argue that this Mosconi cup was boring. It was edge-of-your-seat the whole time. Do you think you'd get 1000 screaming fans for a one hour uptable game of one-pocket? I doubt it.
