~ ~ ~ Mosconi Cup Qualifying Idea ~ ~ ~

Round Robin day 1 and then a seated single elimination day 2 maybe?

Problem with all round robin is it can be manipulated. :(

There's a couple of ways to reduce manipulation in round robin formats.

1. Eliminate the bottom few each round.
2. Track the stats on misses, fouls for and against, runout % from wet breaks and opponent's dry breaks and misses.

The second part helps identify when players are helping others with bad play.

Selection would not just be on frames won, it would take into account other performance indicators.

Next year it will be here in the states. My suggestion will prob not apply till 2016. We have to make our players immune to the hostile crowd. Our guys need to practice in front of a beered up audience. Invite people off the street and give them all the free beer they can drink and turn em loose! Im in! Sign me up!

I like these ideas.

Your basic problem with the round robin idea, or any mosconi team qualifying tournament is funding. Are we going to expect these players to pay to fly around the country to play in a tournament without prize money? And, where is the venue, is that going to be donated as well? Plus, any of these guys can win in any given day, so 2-3 tournaments isn't an appropriate sample size if the goal is to find the best players.

Just track the players' progress throughout the year, and rank them. Use some advance stats to rank them in different areas. That type of system could actually be instituted, and immediately. Although, if somebody wants to fund a series of mosconi cup qualifying tournaments, I might watch. At least, I'd give it some thought. Although, it would depend on the selection process, which decides who gets invited, because that could be unfair.

As I've said in a previous thread..

Here is a list of the best tourney schedule in the U.S. (BCA)
This tells who is playing BEST against the BEST.
If your rated in the top of these, you deserve it..
How did some players NOT get on the team..
Dedicated players should play in all of them to make the team ( points system)

BCA Events list
Event 1: 2013 Turning Stone Classic XX
Event 2: 2013 Derby City Classic
Event 3: 2013 Ultimate 10-Ball GONE
Event 4: 2013 Southern Classic GONE
Event 5: 2013 US Open 10-Ball invitational
Event 6: 2013 US Open 8-Ball WRONG GAME
Event 7: 2013 Turning Stone Classic XXI
Event 8: 2014 Derby City Classic wrong year

Only 3 survived!
Sbe expo makes 4!
Us open 9 ball??? Not sure players are paid. Let alone another event!

So we have 4, not much to use for selection.

I thought lindenwood university was going to be used for competitions and the selection process.

Other venues would love to host player try outs in my opinion. Plus, consumers pay to watch training camp. Just like in other sports.
