Mosconi Cup - Strickland

On multiple different occasions at that...

I said on here multiple times. Earl is a jackass, but he can shoot damn good pool and is one of the best shots out there today. However, talent has nothing to do with demeanor.

It seems like you're justifying Earl's actions because of his talent level. If some average Joe pool player made such remarks, would they still be justifiable? Cuz after all, that sells pool.

It's not just my mind. Ask ANY promoter and they will tell you Earl is the biggest draw on the planet. People pay to see him, they come out of the woodwork to see him. People from near and far...all sorts of people, from all classes. Does that tell you anything....there MUST be a reason.

And yes, I'm biased. But realistic.

See Above...

People dont just come out to see him shoot, they come out to see that the jackass will do next. He is controversal, morons like that.

Yeah, Earl was SUCH a good draw, that Camel bailed out on everyone, most likely as a RESULT of Earl doing what Earl does best, BLOWING UP!, NOT his pool playing ability.
Surely if it was soley based on talent, they might have let it slide that he walked out of the finals. I mean, if they were making such a killiing off of him right?!

You don't have a clue as to what sells pool, it's that plain and simple.

What was McEnroe fined? 5 K MAYBE? When he's knocking down a million or two? For that ONE tournament. Yeah, I'm sure he 'suffered' from it.

How many times have you brought up that Okamura incident? Damn dude, the past is the past. You don't see me talking about Jane Fonda and the Vietnam war ....over and OVER. Give it a break!!

Sit back and watch of the greatest players to ever hold a stick, while you can.

Rick S.

Apparently I'm not the only one who has no clue as to "what sells pool." You think earl sells pool? What has he done FOR the game, besides perpetuate the wonderful image pool has? Who, besides a fan of pool, even knows who he is? Give me a break. He sells pool about as well as you articulate a point - you both suck at it. Please, clue me in as to what sells pool, because if you know, you've figured out what nobody else has for the last 30 years.

I can list incident after incident involving earl's stupid behavior. Can you list incident after incident where earl has actually helped the game of pool?

In any case, you've missed the point of my post, or you ignored it in order to make some pointless red-herring analogy involving Jane Fonda. The point was that maybe earl wouldn't be such a dick at events if he had to pay a penalty for his behavior. BTW, since you mentioned it, McEnroe NEVER won a million dollar tournament. They didn't exist when he was playing. McEnroe was also suspended for two months once. Let's see how earl would behave if that (or worse) were a possible ramification for his childish behavior.

Why don't you stop swinging from earl's scrote for 2 seconds and learn to READ? I didn't bring up Okamura, Superstar did. I do bring up examples of earl's fine upstanding behavior from time to time to point out the fact to fanboys like you that he's a dick, plain and simple. You don't like me pointing out that fact, put me on your ignore list. I'll give it a break as soon as you stop nut-swinging.

I'll definitely sit back and watch one of the greatest players to ever hold a stick while I can - I love to see Efren play. When Efren's in the house, not only do fans watch, PLAYERS watch.

Biased? No doubt. Realistic? Let's hold off on that one....

Yet another fine post. The biggest draw on the planet is earl? PUH-LEEZE. You think anybody besides an American earl fanboy would make that statement? Efren is worshipped in the Philippines, by fans and non-fans, by players and non-players. earl gets maybe two more idiot nut-swinging fanboys at the Open (which, sadly, just might make him the biggest draw in the US). Do you honestly think earl would out-draw Efren, Bustamante, or Yang in Asia? Even better, do you think ANY promoter has ever done a statistical analysis to determine whether or not earl draws more fans than any other pro, ie Archer? Have you ever actually talked to a promoter? I have. I bet it's a 50/50 split between "he might sell two extra tickets" or "do I really want to put up with the headache?" People come out of the woodwork for earl? Near and far? C'mon, earl ain't Bruce Springsteen - he ain't even Gary Coleman on that radar....

Doomcue...You're crackin' me up!

Very eloquent Doom, you just wrote over 1000 words (in a 4 page thread, with 125 replies, just about Earl) to tell everyone Earl is a penis. Of course, that was to refute his popularity. lol Why would you bother? Forget it, I don't want another thousand words of whatever.

Thanks for adding to the notorious mystique of Earl the Pearl!

Whew....my stomach hurts from laughing.

Just a thought,I have been going to the us open 9 ball for 5 years and when EVER earl is scheduled to play in the brackets you cant find a seat to see him play.I never watched earl much before and I dont think it matters which earl shows up,the fans are happy either way! I like watching earl when he's got his head on straight and this recent 9ball open he was just off the planet, even reyes just sat in his chair and shook his head at the way earl was shooting that saturday and thats why people gamble and show up to watch, because you might just see one of the greatest players ever to play pool. He didnt win it,but for 12 hours he was untouchable and he beat some really good players easly. Watching earl when he comes undone ,well I think he does have some kind of behavior disorder that he cant control, you can see it in his eyes. He's super competitve and I really think he just cant control it,he doesnt do this on purpose.I have chatted with him on the side and seen him amongst the crowd and he's always been just a kind person. So dont forget that we are talking about a person here and he may or may not read these but really, nobody's perfect. There's alot of story's of players doing some really bad things like drug dealing and arrainging to have the winner of a pool tornament robbed of his winnings when he left a tournament(he got caught and did his time and is back playing again on the tour) so all earls guilty of is showing too much emotion when he plays sometimes that maybe he cant control.I'm not a earl kiss ass here but give the guy a break, nobody says anything negative when that player who arranged that mugging plays!
Merry XMAS earl and thanks for helping win the CUP.

Just my two cents.....ok, since it appears I am the only person awake this early in the morning (haven't slept yet is the only reason).....I am appalled at what I just read on the main page. I hear the same question over and over again from these forums - it centers on the reasons pool doesn't have good press....well, when you have people like Earl representing you, where can the game go? I can understand that he might be upset about the shot clock incident with Chamat, but to yell "You suck, you suck, all of London sucks!" and then to have to be restrained by Archer - well, that is just WAY over the top - he should be reprimanded somehow. I know there are fans out there for him, but this is terrible sportsmanship and it is once again a slap in the face for the game.

I just had to get that out....thanks for letting me vent.

9balllvr

His bad behavior shows all over the place, anywhere he plays there is something bad that happens with him.
I think he should see a shrink.
Perhaps there is someone close to him like his mother maybe (which I doubt) that could take care of that.

Your right!!

He's not close with his Mother. She died of lung cancer awhile back....try again.

You can say that again! Good post.

That's because he doesnt have the winner mugged every tournament. Earl acts out a lot.

No,But thats one guy who should never be allowed to play at a pro event if there ever was one!! How would you like to be the lucky guy to win a event with him in it and be walking out to your car on a dark night. I'll take my chances with Earl.:)

Some random thoughts: 1. Earl CAN be a nice guy - I've talked to him a little and he's got some strange thinking on some things, but he's not a total heel; 2. His actions in London were WAY out of line IMO primarily because he's representing the USA - I travelled a lot in my military career and had to suffer the backlash of the "Ugly American" syndrome so I know he's affecting perceptions in a negative way, however...3. I like watching Earl play, he's fun (as long as he's not totally over the top), and there really are a lot of boring players at the top (champion-speed concentration usually=boring); 4.To GREENMAN: man, I REALLY resent someone from Canada taking cheap shots at President Bush (especially in a pool forum!) - last I looked, we've done a hell of a lot for your country without much in return - if you're an American citizen living in Canada, please disregard; 5. To 8Ball Bernie: you may want to study a fellow pro name of Varner to learn how tour pros conduct themselves in every facet of communication (even tho he's from Kentucky and I guess, in your eyes, a "redneck" - how can you walk away from a post like that? Guess next time it gets slow here, we just need to start an "Earl thread", huh?

What did America ever do for Canada? I certainly can't recall anything. We stole some of their hockey franchises, is that it? Protect them from invasion by Mexico?

8ball bernie has left the house.

he's now posting under his 'original' monniker....'The Silencer' Which makes no sense at all. The Silencer drew so much heat last time he used that name...he was either 86'd or voluntarily left. Either way, it wasn't pretty.

It's just a matter of time...
