mosconi cup tickets

yea, i know. i blame it on the rowdy Brits - Vegas sent them to the end of the strip! at least it's next to the liquor store & airport. and we've still got the Rodeo cowboys @ closeby MGM to kick their unruly English arses....

as for costs, Mark, Mirage was $56. MGM is $50. Luxor & Disneyland & NYNY are $33. i'm guessing Tropicana will be $25ish?

Lou, we'll be across the street @ Mandalay, if yáll want to join us & split a $5 cab ride & drink in Red Square from the frozen vodka bar.

Pinky, Mandalay is where Gail likes to stay when we're in Vegas during the summer. She's a kid at heart and loves the pool area there.

The frozen bar at Red Square is great for a vodka sampler mit caviar and I had a great chicken kiev at the restaurant. Gail is making noise about going this year but I don't know, it's too early to tell. I've already warned her about youze guys :-)

i don't know how to embed my email ads from the MGM properties & MLife into here, but i get them now daily (not weekly). it's usually a 3 night minimum, plus txs & that daily fee, and $100 playing chips & $100 room service credit & $100 restaurant credit.

it's always cheaper to call the front desk direct or just walk in; cheaper than Expedia, Travelocity, etc; don't tell them you're coming in for an event; tell them you're coming back from 2 mos ago to gamble & your friend recommended them @ $__ rate.... these rates have pretty much been the standard for the past 5 years. none of my furniture people have ever stayed at Tropicana in the past 10yrs, so i can't speak of them - that $25 was a guess, comparing it to Strat, Riviera, Sahara. if they pull $100/night, i'm telling all of my people & it'll be the running joke of my Show next month!

i would think that MatchRoom would have negotiated special rates for everyone? i did it w/ Mirage for 2013 & got $56, but by late OCT that was the going rate so it wasn't any special deal. Palms is around the corner, too. for the value, i'd stay at Luxor or MGM. Luxor ($33) has a really good steakhouse & Starbucks. MGM ($50ish) has tons of fabulous restaurants, plus green tigers & you can walk across the side street.

and yes, Bob - your attendance is mandatory @ Best Billiards. i want to see those trick shots! :happydance:

I think we should all demand Bob do a Mr. Wizard kinda show and demonstrate all kinds of obscure scientific alchemy type shots.

Lou Figueroa
no, no don't thank
me, Bob :-)

$44/day? weren't they $40 in 2013?

i LOVE LOVE Mosconi - don't get me wrong - but it's sad when the tickets cost more than the hotel.... it is, however, WORTH the $44.

PS - how in the hell did you get Mirage @ $42 fricken dollars?!?! good for you! new record set!

I think the package was 140 for the 4 days in 2013.... now it's 175.

Mirage, and any other Mlife hotel gets cheaper, the more you use it. I go a couple times a year for the last 30+, so in my opinion, they should be $20 a night....lol.

I was a fight fanatic in the late 70's ,80's and 90's.... saw them all.... and back then you could stay at Ceasars or the Flamingo for free.

But the Trop....? I just cannot imagine how anything could best the Mirage for this event.

Somebody screwed up, IMO

Mandalay's been my favorite for 10 yrs. till i discovered the penthouse @ Mirage. Aria & Cosmo don't suck either. Mandalay has THE BEST POOLS - of course we'll be there in December....

we stayed @ Mandalay in 2011 for Mosconi @ MGM. the rodeo @ MGM had 50% of their cowboys staying @ Mandalay. there were hats everywhere! (it was hot....) i took KK9 to Red Square, and i can't remember if that shot of vodka was $38? or $58? (it was obviously effective) the red vodka penne chicken pasta was great too in the dark aura.

i've stayed at Luxor maybe 5 or 6 times. the Towers are newer, but you don't have the effect of the vaulted ceilings & see the sun glistening off of Mandalay's gold windows every morning & walk out of your room into the open casino floor filled w/ Egyptian sculptures. but for $33/night - i'd be booking Luxor over Tropicana & hopping the free tram to Mandalay, Excalibur, NYNY, etc.

tell Gail to bring a cowboy hat & boots!

ah.

The rodeo.

Las Vegas.

Buckle Bunnies.

I had never heard that one before until I was sitting at one of the bars and these two very attractive ladies sat down next to be. After they left the bartender used the term.

heheehehe. everytime i roll in/out, i look at that white place & wonder when they are going to drop it. seriously - we've had 100K people for our show, 3 times/yr, for 10 yrs - and NONE of them have EVER stayed at the Tropicana. (kind of like when you stay at Sahara, once.) and that was back when hotels cost $120+/+.

my guess is that Matchroom couldn't work a deal w/ MGM Intl or Harrah's. so they went with the Tropicana. do you know what it's going to cost in taxis every night just to go from the end to the center of the Strip for dinner & sights? $40.

i'm telling you - those Brits must have worn out their welcome in Vegas w/ MGM & Mirage, and word spread to Harrah's.

I stayed at the Trop for ACS nationals, and it's really nice.
Pool area is very modern and well maintained, restaurants are great, especially the breakfast buffet.
Rooms were also all renovated and modern, and the location is also great.

I'm a little confused with the negative comments, have you actually stayed there since the renovation ?

Harrah's would of been a better choice, IMO....and as far a buffet goes for breakfast, they're hard to beat.

Hell why not move the MC to the Fremont downtown. That way the Brits could fit right in.:D

8-Ball: I have not stayed at the Trop in probably 10 years, and I'm sure the rooms are great, but walking through that casino makes me feel like I'm at Circus Circus. They obviously did'nt focus much on the casino for the renovation.

The Flamingo was recently renovated as well, and is night and day different than it was....the Trop, to me still looks like its set in the 60's.

hehehehehe - so true! Golden Nugget redid their rooms a few years ago & i hear they are fantastic. however, i think they should all stay at Strat & we see if they can "hang" from 104 floors...?

omg - i HATE Circus Circus! it's a ROUND room with NO DOORS!

yes, my Chicago rep was @ Flamingo in late JAN. stays there & Cosmo. he RAVED about the upfits. and of course, the birds.

@ 8Ball - i went online for pics for my 1st time. i got better ones from Expedia. your recommendation is cool! (but for 1/2 the price, i'd be staying at Luxor.)

I bought my event tickets. Pretty cheap. If we ultimately send a team that I find ridiculous and leave some of our most elite players home as we did in the Mosconi massacre of 2014, I simply won't go.

That said, I'm trying to be the optimist here and think we'll find a way to send a capable team and, if we do, win or lose, a good time will be had by all.

.... and it's only 8 1/2 months away. You can almost taste it.

It's always been the Motel 6 of the Vegas Strip.

Plus, several reports say all they did was put on a new coat of paint and changed linens. Structurally not much change is reported. TripAdvisor is your friend.

Tropicana is owned by Canadians. Jimmy Wych is one of the commentators of the Mosconi cup matches is a Canadian. Jimmy wych Knows the owners of the Tropicana. Is it possible that Jimmy wych might have influenced Barry Hearn to change the venue? Just a thought...

Well, they are wrong. I have stayed there in the 90's and it was like the Riviera or circus circus quality.
I have stayed there the past two acs nationals and the rooms are fully renovated as is the pool area. Casino, restaurants etc
Has anyone replying on this thread actually stayed at the new Tropicana?

I stayed at the Tropicana in 2012. It's passable but nothing special, a definite step down from the Mirage, where the 2013 Mosconi was held.

tickets secured... i love watching a massacre.. thats why i love the mosconi cup these days :)
