The players also got flights and rooms and meals paid for.
Team USA did not stay at the hotel. They had some kind of apartment situation and cooked most of their meals in, so I heard.
And transportation to and from Alexandra Palace was provided.
And the players had security escorts from the entrance of the building to the player practice areas.
And there were very efficient guards at the separate practice rooms from an actual security company.
There is no entry fee that the players could have afforded that would have made any difference to the event's budget.
For that matter, the prize fund was a small part of the total budget. Ticket sales appear to have been several hundred thousand dollars. And then there was the TV revenue -- there was live TV with ads every two racks which is why there was a pause after every odd rack.
A players father told me the players fiance wasn't allowed to stay with him while she was in England either so I gathered the team was basically sequestered to keep them on task.

With Team Europe, did they practice the same as Team USA before the big event? Did they travel together to various events like Team USA did? These are little details, I guess, but they obviously made a HUGE difference.
