mosconi table

George Rood, who owned the room (and table) at one time, told me that at least three people thought they bought the record table.

1P: I'm told that was a four by eight table?
GR: You're right. Now, we had played on a four and a half by nine, but it was a four by eight that he played on, with another fellow, on the night he had that high run.

1P: George, do you remember how tight the pockets were on that table?
GR: They were large.

1P: That must have helped out a little bit.
GR: But never-the-less, it's more balls than anyone else ever got.

I would bet the 8' Brunswick Mosconi played on was fairly new and stock pockets from the factory. Someone out there must know what was Brunswicks standard pocket size for an 8' table back then. Johnnyt

PS:The two old guys that I got in touch with said Brunswicks had 5.5" pockets back in the 1940's and 1950's.

There have always been rumors....

We know it was a 4x8 according to his autobiography and witness accounts....

I have heard the pockets were huge with shallow shelfs....

The best one I have heard was that the night was humid and Mosconi was given a cpl of hangers that should have but didn't fall.....

Mosconi said he quit because he got tired... The spectator accounts and other sources state he missed........

Thinking about this brings me to only one conclusion... Pat Fleming truly deserved his Hall of Fame induction.... Imagine if we had the Mosconi run on an Accu-Stats video..... Hopefully if the record ever falls Accu-Stats or Tar is live streaming and recording and we get to have it saved for posterity......

I don't think it matters too much as far as the table goes.
Those same big pockets were there to gobble up the cue ball as well.
He also would have had to deal with more clustered balls as compared to a 9 footer. It is still quite an impressive feat i.m.o.

Tighter pockets mean shorter runs. These top pros don't lose the CB more than one 1 in 100 shots and even thing it's only a close call on the scratch. Johnnyt

Anybody ever tried to check with Brunswick about the run.he worked for them, maybe the have something about it.maybe they tried to advertise the table he did it on in a promo after he did it.

Mosconi was a pioneer for the sport, I respect ,and honor his legacy , however, its time we give the pros of today the oppurtunity to attempt to set a new record, on similar equipment as he set the record on..
(same table, and pocket size, and only conventinal shafts)

Id pay to see them try, and Im sure before its all said, and done, there will be a new record holder...

I don't think we'd have the signed attestations if he had been given a couple of hangers.

In his autobiography, Mosconi says he missed (didn't just quit).
