National and local media, have they received any tickets to the show? The hard core EEEEEEEE's of course but society, how well informed are they of this event? Might be time to have an Annual Minnesota Fats Tournament....even non players still understand that term....maybe.

Good question, Island Drive. We would hope those running this event have contacted/invited the media long ago.
They're making such a big deal about the 20th Anniversary of the MC though this (pool player) website that
I hope they don't forget about spreading word to the mainstream folks. Heck, if done correctly, the advertising could throw
in a Minnesota Fats reference—just to make a well-known connection. It's all about "connection" in advertising.

Why? We want as many people to see this event as possible.
Although, many of the casual viewers won't even know who our players are, that's certainly not the point.
We want this demographic to see a cohesive, professional-acting, team-spirited, and hopefully, winning U.S. pool team....

[We had this type of team in 2009, and I feel it's why we won that year.
In 2009, we didn't necessarily have the best players; we had the RIGHT players].

....this impression will be great for pool. It's a golden opportunity to put a great face on our game.
We don't HAVE to win for this particular aspect to be successful, mind you, but obviously that would help.
The MOST IMPORANT thing here is that the U.S. team is immensely gracious and shows class in either win or defeat.

Sorry to mention this again, but that last point is why I didn't like Earl picked on this team.
With so many people watching I pray he doesn't blow the cohesiveness, professional attitude, and good team-spirit.
I truly pray.:(

Earl is one of the reason some media outside of the sport get any interest in it... So what's the solution then? :)

FYI, the media coverage outside of the regular channels is being taken care of. Let's see what the future brings...

Scratched on the 8....hill Game

The industries HUGEST (I made up that word:) Miss Cue in the past Decade was not allowing Allison Fisher (who was in her ''duchess of doom'' prime) play Sigel for the PBT's $250,000.
I heard the WPBA board had their rules'. Instead they sent a lamb who was not longer a WPBA member to play a leopard, not allie. Lori Jon this is NOT a rip at you, but at the industry and the WBPA board. Sigel could of easily lost had he played Fischer.

Joe Rogan should amp up his Earl impersonations on late night tv or SOMETHING.

You should be sorry to mention it again..

You are one of the many people on this forum operating under the misconception that we need to "clean up" pool, and we need good sportsmanship.. "Cleaning up" pool is not the way to go!!

For the most part the American people DO NOT CARE how well-mannered a player is, as long as he/she is a WINNER. Modern America wants their sports/games to be a bit "dirty", and they want some characters...

John McEnroe's bad sportsmanship bad for tennis? I think not.

"The Hustler", a story of a champion loser in life who finally finds happiness, but throws it away by chasing money and glory? Bad for pool? I think not.

Alex "Hurricane" Higgins, a fellow, who drank, smoked, and twitched his way through two world snooker championships... He gambled, mentioned how "fascinating" housewives found him, and was a raucous consumer of all life's pleasures... Bad for snooker? I think not.

Phil Helmuth, the famous "poker brat", and DEFINITELY not a good sport.. Bad for poker? I think not.

Even Tiger Woods, pre-whoring.... You could look at his face and see the barely contained disdain he had for the rest of the pro golfers. He knew he was better than them by a ridiculous amount.. Bad for Golf? I think not.

Face it... People don't care about bad sportsmanship. They care about WINNING, pure and simple.

And as far as having a "clean" image.. Here's the thing.. This comes POST corporate involvement.. It does not GENERATE corporate involvement!

A sport garners enough attention to capture a certain percentage of the public... Coporations see the advantage of attaching themselves to the brand... They offer more money into the fold, at the cost of a little leeway in personal behavior by the athletes..

If a certain athlete is popular enough with the masses, they can quite literally get away with murder, and still retain corporate sponsorship..

But that's the key!! It's ALL about the individual personalities!! Michael Jordan dragged the NBA into the current level of ridiculous paychecks.

There's a whole bunch of morons (no offense) that think Earl Strickland is bad for the game..

An Earl Strickland who still plays well enough to win a major now and again is BY FAR the best asset pool has right now. You better damn well wish another champion nut like him comes along soon before Earl can't win any more.

Earl is our Johnny Mack. Badboy McEnroe was a Huge help to their sport, but when their decline started happening a few years later, the tennis association went to its roots and ramped up instruction and getting the next generation prepared. Pool, very little is attending to this area, hopefully soon that will change.

Well said, ShortBus.

Don't get me wrong here, sir.
I want to clean up pool yes, but only in terms of smoke-filled rooms, behind-the-scenes drugs, and other items of ill-repute.
Just a more clean and professional image for pool.

Let's face it, it's happening in Asia.
The face of the pool player is changing. A fresh-faced, healthy, and non-druggy pool player is the new deal (for the most part).
Think SVB, Toasty, Ko, and Sha-sha.

As far as the personalities go for a pool player, hell yeah! Bird, Lambier, MJ, all talked smack!
We need those. I'm all for eccentricity, big image, and dog-eat-dog competition.
That's where the Americans come in. But pool needs to clean up its act to get respect.
It's been looked at with low brows for far too long by the masses.
We can clean up the sport and yet still have big personalities. I have no problem with that.

Can you imagine a well-mannered and clean-cut winner in pool with just enough big personality?
That's what pool needs. That's what the mainstream wants from our sport.

So it's time to change (just a little). It's what Michael Jordan offered.
And look at all the money and exposure MJ brought to b-ball.

Don't we want that for pool?

That's the way the pool ship is sailing. That's reality. Pool is in a special place to get noticed, but only if
we let her sail as she will toward the beacon of light. We got to get on board this thing.

They sold out and added more. They are doing something right.

Years ago, they couldn't fill the bleachers.
