I came across a 14.1 match dated 1963 US OPEN mosconi v. caras. The anouncers mention it is a rematch from the last event???? It is not the 66 match with crane and balsis. It is about 48min in lenght and good quality, the sound drops a bit latter in the match. anyone know anything about this match and if it is properly dated?
thanks,
Jordan

Jordan,
I have never heard of such a tape. I was unaware that Mosconi ever competed in formal competition after the early 1950's (after he suffered a significant stroke), so I'm a little doubtful. If you do find such a tape, PM me, because I WANT IT TOO!!!! Also, if you know where to get a copy of the Crane/Balsis tape (I think it is billed "Challenge of the Titans"), let me know, I WANT THAT ONE TOO!!!!

P.S. - There are definitely some Mosconi/Caras ESPN tapes from the 70's, but they are playing 9-ball, 7-ball, and 8-ball on crappy equipment. Still fun to watch sometimes.

I have the 66 tape and the one I am refering to above. It is clearly from the 60's and by the looks of it is early sixties. It is a fromal match. I tried to date it as best as possible. The table looks like a gold grown one. If that is any help. Caras looks younger in here then he did in his mid sixties trick shit video that I have. I brought this up in question, because as a avid collector of pool videos, I have not seen this nor seen it on any lists. I shall await responses from others to see if anyone else knows anything about this.

I am not sure about the exact year of the match, but I recall seeing something very close to what you are describing. It was most definitely in the early to mid 60s. If I remember correctly, Jimmy Caras runs around 126 and out on Mosconi. Quality of the video was similar to that of the '66 Crane/Balsis match.

Mosconi did not fully retire from serious competition until 1966.

thanks for your helpful response

When you write "Caras looks younger in here then he did in his mid sixties trick shit video " I think you should proof read before posting.

The first post to him was tongue in cheek due to the type of mistake he had made, it was funny. He was too dense to realize what I was getting at, you I prefer not to comment on, your words speak for themselves, other then to say you are a person of very little quality.

Mosconi and Caras ...

Jimmy Caras put on an exhibition in my growing up town of Dodge City, Ks
in 1962, and I played an exhibition match with Willie Mosconi in 1969 at
The Billiard Tavern at 12th and Broadway in San Diego after winning a
tournament there.
