Mosconi video

I imagine these will get pulled soon, as it seems to be a copyright violation, but here's a video of an old Willie Mosconi playing Jimmy Caras:

Nice video clip, Fred. Are there other video clips out there of the old masters that can be viewed for free?

This is the first I've seen.

I'm amazed at how effortless he makes it seem. In the second rack he had some tough shots, but that first rack made me feel like anyone should be able to run a rack in straight pool.

I may need to go out and buy an older video of him nearer his prime.

This is the first time I've seen Willie play too. Within the span of the 5 minute video clip, I was a little surprised at the number of times he got into sticky situations while trying to break open clusters. I would have tried using a bit more speed to open some of the clusters so that the cue ball isn't so close to the other balls. Just my opinion.

ESPN Classic has a lot of 1-hour programming featuring matches between the old masters, so I'm planning on subscribing to it (and recording it on my VCR).

Read this for directions of downloading Youtube and other such flash files.

I have set up a Pool Club section on Youtube here:
http://www.youtube.com/group/pool

Save it to your favorites.
It currently lists about 20 Pool videos that are on Youtube. I will update it with more videos as I find them or as they are added to Youtube. I want to keep it mainly for quality pool videos, so join up and add some videos if you find some good ones.

btw: Re Copyright: If video owners / sellers had any brains, they ought to put a bunch of Youtube sample videos up with a link to where to purchase the complete video. It's called marketing.

I agree completely.

The clip is also short enough (from a 2 hour video) that it may not actually be a violation. Had accu-stats posted the clip instead of "muffindeingles", I'm sure it would generate sales.

I have this video at home. My wife bought it from Accu-Stats for me for Christmas. Both Willie and Jimmy play really well, but keep in mind this video was taped just a few years before Willie passed away, and he had just completed a 5-day hospital stay. He's probably playing at well below 50% of his prime. Does anyone know how to get ahold of old footage of Willie playing?

Exactly, Willie wasn't playing very well at all. Made me feel better about my game. He makes some of the very same mistakes that I make. Hell, I'm gunna run a hundred balls soon, damnit!

I have a 14.1 match between Mosconi and Caras. It is from the 1963 Wide World of Sports. About 40 minutes long, the sound fades out shortly into the match. PM me if interested.

Speaking of the Mosconi Cup, it was clear that Tony Robles viewed the 2006 BCA Open as a tryout for the US Mosconi Cup team.

En route to his seventh place finish, Robles beat Thomas Engert, Niels Feijen, Fabio Petroni and Thorsten Hohmann, four veterans of the European Mosconi Cup team.

Taking one's inclusion on the Mosconi Cup team this seriously is surely a tribute to Willie!
